So today I was cleaning my clubs. They had been sitting out in my car and since I live in Iowa so they were a little cold. When I got to my 910d and 910h I noticed that there was air escaping from the weight hole with the weight still in there when I ran the warm water to clean them. I was wondering since the air can escape from the weight hole, if water gets in there can the water make the club rust or decrease it's performance?

Hi Jake,  With the advent of movable weights and multi-material clubs, we do not advocate running water or submersing clubs into water to clean them.  They are not hermetically sealed and water can and will get into the heads (including irons).  If water has gotten into your club, take the weight out and turn it upside down so that you can dry out the club.

We recommend using a damp cloth with mild soap and water to clean your clubs.

    Hi Cathi,

You mentioned that water can get into the irons as well the adjustable metal woods.  I understand how to get the water out of the woods, but how would I get any water out of the irons?  I have the 2008 version of the AP1's and I have been soaking them to get them clean.  My course has a cleaning bucket right next to the 18th green and the driving range so I've been using that after each round.  If there is water in the heads, what kind of performance issues could there be?  Could they rust from the inside out and break after a period of time?  I'm hoping to purchase a new set of AP1's next spring (assuming that there will be a new iron release this November - any word on that?), so I'm trying to keep my current set in one piece until then.  I have stopped soaking them since I read your post. Thanks for any info you can share.

If water had gotten into the head, you would have seen some seepage so it sounds like your clubs are fine.

    Cathi,

Thanks for the reply.  I feel a bit better.  Any word that you can share about the release of the next generation of APs or any other models?  Thanks again.

Our typical release is in November/December of each year and our Tour seeding usually takes place in July/August.  We will definitely let our TT members know as soon as information is available :)
