I love my Vokey wedges. I have a 52*, 56* and a 60*.  I've been thinking about ditching my pitching wedge and picking up a new 46* Vokey wedge. Has anyone done that? Any regrets? Thanks!

The 246 is a great club, i never even ordered the PW with my AP1 set.  i have the 250 and 256 as well

I have made the switch and have no regrets about it. I like how you can chip around the greens much easier with the Vokey as well. I would encourage you to go the 46 Vokey route.

I have an AP1 PW (set to 46) and I love it to death.   I also have the length at 35.5" (with an Excel RF grip).   My primary use of the PW is full swing shots and pitches and sometimes for long bunker shots.  I generally use my SW around the greens.

Personally, I prefer a 50-08 bent strong vs a 48-06 mainly because it is a heavier swingweight with a shorter shaft.

Using a PW or Vokey 46/48 is a matter of personal taste and usage.   The Vokey has more spin so it stops the ball better (I found that out on the one golf game I used it on).

I purchased AP1 irons 4-9 in January and bought an SM4 Vokey 46.08* PW. I have to say, I am happy; However, your pitching wedge will likely be much more forgiving than the Vokey PW. While I love my Vokey PW when I am striking the ball well, I struggle with it on days that I'm not striking the ball well. After all, it is a thin bladed wedge. It's totally up to you. If you feel that your ball striking is consistent enough, go for it. If you have issues at any time with your Vokeys, I would stick with your PW.

I agree with Keano26.  Even the 52-12 and 54-14 are thin bladed.  I'm pretty happy with the AP1 PW and three SM4s (54-11 and 60-10 bent 1* strong and 64-07).   And, like I said, I'm not a particular fan of the Vokey PW (46 and 48) mainly because of the shaft length of 35.75" (I play my 9 iron and PW at 35.5" with 64.5* lie angle because those particular parameters have worked for the past 4 years in any iron set I've had).   My main usage of the AP1 PW is full swing shots, pitches and long bump n run shots; I use my 54-11 for a majority of shots less than 50 yards in.  This, more or less, follows the way I played with my 2009 setup (DIY 47 PW and  55 SW cavity backs and SM2 60-07 and 64-07; the SW actually outperformed specialty wedges in sand and was my primary club within 50 yards of the pin).  I had better results with a 50-08 bent to 49 vs the 48-06 bent the same (both 49-07); I had the former set up with a 35.25" shaft length.

My PW (710MB) is 47 degrees. Do people find the Vokeys travel farther or shorter than a typical PW? I'm trying to decide between the 46 or the 48. Please note, I'm 6'5" tall, and my clubs are longer than normal. That makes it hard for me to try before I buy.

    Dave,

Typically with my fittings, I find that most players typically hit their set PW farther than a similar lofted Vokey Wedge due to spin.   This is'nt the case all of the time but most.  I find that the Vokey's ball spin is a little higher than a standard PW (MB/AP2) in the 46/48 degree range.

But if a player is a low spin guy, he may actually hit the Vokey wedge farther due to it offering more spin. A high spin guy, most likely will hit the stock PW farther in most cases.

Best of Luck on your Titleist Wedges.

Thanks Gator. This is what I figured. Given that I tend to get a good amount of spin (especially with wedges), I'm thinking I go with the 46 to keep a good gap to my 9 iron. I already only carry a PW/54/60 wedge set. My PW is good for about 130-135, the 54 is about 110-115, and the 60 is about 80ish. I generally have no problem backing off to fill the gaps, but trying to hit it farther rarely works for me.

What I can tell you is that there was a 10 yd difference between a DCI PW (47) and SM c-c 48-06 (bent to 49).

There is a little bit less distance with the Vokey mainly because of the spin.

  11. Your first wedge is a 52?  get a 46 in there.....I have pngs and vokeys and the vokey does not stop and faster then the anser nor does it travel any further.......its all about how you hit it......you cant miss hit a vokey and have it stop and better or travel just as far as a center hit anser......the vokey I have is sweet and would recommend it to anyone but its not the club that makes the golfer

Thanks for everyone's input.  There is a lot of great knowledge on this website.  I decided to stop by the pro shop on my way home yesterday and I bought the 48* Vokey. I can't wait to try it out tomorrow on the links!

I was at the launch monitors today with my AP1 PW, an AP2 PW, an SM4 46*, SM2 48-06.

The AP1 PW hit somewhere around 105 yd average.

The AP2 PW was about 97 yd.  It had an S300 shaft so it may hit 102 with an R300.

The SM4 46* was about the same distance as the AP1 but did hit one shot 115yd.  POTENTIAL!!

    The SM2 48-06 hit around 95 yd.

Shot pattern was pretty well around centerline.

At this point I'm nailing my wedge shots with the AP1 and putting it close.   Not ready to change yet.

I have to concur with most of the opinions here. I have a set of CB irons (ca. 2005). I ditched my PW for a 48 degree Vokey years ago and have never regretted it once. It gives me the confidence of dialing in shots to the green from inside 125 yards which I could never have dreamed of with my PW. I only wish that there was a 44 degree Vokey with which I could replace my 9-iron.

I ditched mine for a 48 degree, best decision i have made. Since you have so many Vokey wedges it will be an easy switch. I have confidence in my swing since i use the same type of club from 130 yards and in, unlike when using a PW which has the feel of all my irons, long and short.

  16. Interesting thoughts here.

I am using cally's and find that I hit my 9 iron around 125 yards but I struggle to get more than 75 yards with my 46 Vokey.

Rather too large a gap for comfort in the real world but I understand that this is a known problem and will be sorted out with the introduction of a newly designed set of wedges.
