I recently found an Oil Can Scotty Cameron 009 Tour putter for sale that it is in good condition except for some rust.  Is it possible to get the rust off somehow without sending it in to the custom shop for a full refinish?  Any thoughts or advice would be great, thanks!

try some FLITZ rust remover, or try to run some gun oil on the putter.

That did the trick on some light rust I had on my OC

    Aaron,

The only way to really remove the rust from that putter is going through with the full restoration.  Anything used to try remove the rust will remove the finish as well.  Those Oxide require very high maintenance and need to be kept free of moisture as much as possible.

The oil cans were pretty much a raw finish, meaning that the carbon steel only has a layer of oil protecting it. I wouldn't send it in for restoration for a few light rust spots.

Thanks!  If I sent the putter in for restoration obviously rust will probably return in time with regular usage but I was wondering if you can change to a different finish that would be rust free or at least a little less high maintenance?  Is this possible with a Tour putter or is my only option to restore to its original finish?

Matt had a good recommendation earlier. Using a fine oil like baby or gun has done a good job of cleaning up rust from a number of putters for me and has not further removed the finish. If you do have a restoration done, rust is unlikely to return if you take good care of the putter by keeping it oiled/silicone coated and always dry and in the cover. With all of your questions, you'd do well to call the great people at Scotty's Custom Shop. You'll get your finish and pricing questions answered as well as turnaround time. The number is (760) 591-9720 . Enjoy!
