  1. At the end of the season I want to buy into Titleist irons and since the 714's are coming out at the end of the year I was wondering if I should get the 712's when the price drops, or spend full price for 714's. Also, how much will the price drop when it does and how long after the 714's are released to the market.

Playing cally Razr X irons right now and want to buy into more of a players iron and Titleist.

    Hi Trey,

Where did you hear that the 714 irons are coming out and when would they come out?  What are you looking at getting since you mentioned that you wanted to get into more of a players club?

Since Titleist irons are (I believe) more of a players club, the AP2s, CB and MBs are more designed for players, or course all of them leading up to the MBs with a little less forgiveness but more workability.

Thanks for any info on the 714s.

    Sam

  3. Since Titleist irons come out every 2 years and the last ones (712) came out in 2012 the new ones should be coming out at the end of this season. What I meant by more of a player's iron is that I'm currently playing a game improvement and I want to buy into something more playable. I really just want to buy into Titleist clubs.

    Hi Trey,

How much of a "players" club do you want to get into, since you stated that you are using GI irons right now?  I mean, I don't think you would go into the MB's as those are tough to hit and even many pros are getting away from the MBs now a days. I would recommend getting the AP2s, as that would be an easier transition for you, since they are still a players club, but still have plenty of forgiveness. Then of course, as you get better, you can always simply order single clubs from Titleist to make your iron set a combo set. Such as adding CBs (or MBs, if you really wanted them), in the shorter irons and keep the AP2s in the long irons and even mid-irons.

Since Titleist doesn't have a "combo" set of irons (like the 735.CM), I usually tend to custom order mine. I have MBs for 6-PW and AP2s for 5-3. But now I'm thinking of getting a 712U for my 3-iron and maybe a 2-iron. The 712U's are an AMAZING club and you should think about getting those for your long irons, if you are more of an iron person than a hybrid person.

But consider the AP2s before the CBs and MBs, as it will be easier to hit and they have a butter feel since they are forged as well.

Let me know what you think after you test them out.

You can save $100 in late November/December.  Once Titlest stops custom orders on the last release, then you get to buy off the floor.  So either way, if your season ends in October, I'd wait.

From everything that I've come across, the 714's aren't going to be very much different than the current 712's.  Pretty much cosmetic changes will be it.  The 712's perform so well I don't think they're going to mess too much with a successful design.

Personally, I just want an all satin finish and possibly a thinner sole :)

  7. I've heard that lot's of people want the all satin, is the satin what's on the sole of the club for their Ap2's now?

I am in the same boat as you.  I am definitely waiting til the 714's come out.  When I go to get fitted I am going to compare both models and base my decision on difference between the two, price, etc..   I dont think the price will drop extremely on the 712's though, so more than likely I'll be going with the 714's.

Yes currently on the sole of the AP2's.  It's the brushed/matte look to what would otherwise be chrome.

Not fully satin for the 712 AP2's, only the soles are.  Hopefully the whole club head of the 714 AP2's will be satin.

I LOVE my 710 AP2s, but I'm considering getting a newer set of AP2s next winter.

Whatever you do, GET FITTED!!! It makes a huge difference!

    Good luck, and good golf!

I bought a set of AP1 712s in January. I'm relatively new to golf, and finished last season averaging a 91. I am now averaging an 84, and I attribute it to these irons. I wanted the AP2s, but bottom line, they were too expensive. I don't know how much sweeter Titleist can make their clubs after how awesome the 712 series are. You have a tough decision to make. If you have money, go ahead and buy the 712s, and if you like the looks of the 714s when they come out (I believe late next year), go with em'! I'm not planning on getting new irons anytime soon. Like I said, mine are fantastic, and the AP2, CB and MB look flawless as well.

I have been wondering the same thing:  Buy 712s at end of season (now) or wait for the 714s?  Yesterday I went to Carl's Golfland (large golf retailer in Detroit area) and tried both clubs, with identical shafts.  I could not tell a difference. Both felt great.  The ball flight with the longer clubs (I hit the 5) was a little lower than the png i20s I have now. The Titleist clubs do seem a little longer. But the feel at impact was what struck me as different.  I bought the 712s and expect to have them in a few days.  (Hope the weather holds out long enough to try them out yet this season.)

I was fitted for the AP1 714, one inch longer. I wanted the AP2s but could not hit them as consistently and something about a forged head feels odd to me. I am a 7 handicap. The AP2 are 10 yds longer, consistent even with an average swing and awesome with a good swing, like most irons.  Still getting use to the thicker topline but it does give me confidence. I wished I had given the AP2 more of a look for its play ability factor but most likely would have chosen the AP1.
