Another 712 U question

    I know there are so many discussions about this club but it's hard to filter through all of them.

    My question is;

    I am a lower ball hitter, living in Dallas you almost have to be, but it's hard to hold greens with the long irons so I carry a 2 Hybrid in the bag but have a gap to my 4 iron that I would love to put in the 712U 3 iron. I bought the cally X Utility, as the 712U wasn't out yet, but I couldn't get it in the air to save my life. I would hit it about 230 yards but about 20 feet off the ground, not really what I was looking for as I could sting my hybrid about the same. I need to fill gap between 210-225 yards as that's the gap between my 4 iron and a soft hybrid shot.

    I don't like hitting a hard 4 iron because the dispersion gets too great and I can tend to float it off the tee (kind of opposite of my problem I know) so I want to know, is the 712U meant to get a piercing ball flight or does it get up in the air pretty easily? Is it pretty workable? I can hit a 4 iron high off the tee but not off the ground and I can't really work a hybrid all that well without really guessing as to how far it will go.

    I know there's a lot of variance between players as well as what shaft options they went with so I am kind of looking for an answer from someone who has a lower ball flight to see if this club worked for them. Without it being in any retail store and not belonging to a country club, I don't get a chance to hit it or go to a demo day very often so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I love the look but if it doesn't work for my swing then all it will do is look pretty in my bag.

    Thanks and sorry for the long post.

    Hi Jayson-
    Based on what you've written, the 712U may be a good option for you.  The club is designed for higher ball speed players as a long iron replacement that delivers shot and trajectory control.  Since you live in Dallas, we would recommend that you visit Kyle Cronkright at the Titleist Regional Fitting Center at the Jim McLean Golf School in Fort Worth.  He will have the 712U available for fitting and trial.  More information about the Regional Fitting Center in Fort Worth can be found at the following URL:

    Hi Brice, Quick question for you regarding the 712U and fitting centers. Here in Houston we have two advanced fitting centers, generally do they carry the 712U?  If not a trip to Fort Worth might be in order.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Steven-
    Yes, the Advanced Fitting Centers should be equipped with 712U fitting clubs.  You may want to call ahead just to be safe, though.  Let us know if we can help with anything else.
