  1. I am looking at ordering a new set vokey wedges. I currently have 52,56,60 degree vokey spin milled wedges. I play the majority of my golf in Colorado. My irons are 712 AP2 (4-PW). I am curious what you all think my loft and bounce should be for my new wedges. I am not opposed to only having 2 wedges instead of 3. Thanks for the help!!

    Right now I have the 712 AP2s, playing the 4-PW. I also have a 52.08 SM4, TVD M 56 (12 degrees of bounce) and a TVD M 60 (8 degrees of bounce).

I just recently replaced my 3 iron for a 21 degree hybrid. I was originally planning on getting a 19 degree hybrid, keeping the 3 iron in the bag and replacing my 52 and 56 degree wedges with a 54, but I like my current setup. The only greenside shots that worry me are short sided downhillers with the ball buried in deep rough. Otherwise, I pretty much have a shot option for anything.

It all depends on your golf courses conditions, the softer your course is the more bounce you will need, the firmer your course is, you will benefit from less bounce. Also if you are a digger ( steep ) you need more bounce, if you are a sweeper ( shallow ) you will need less bounce. I carry 4 wedges, my 45°pw, 50-08, 54-11 bent to 55-12, and a 60-07 and they are perfect. Hope this helps!

    Brian,

I would get another 52, 56, and 60 degree wedge. The loft on your pitching wedge is going to be 47 or 48 degrees. That is too big of a gap in between clubs even if  you get a 54, 56, and 60. Having anything over a 60 would be useless unless you were very close to the green, but these are your clubs so it is your decision,

    Brian,

52*/56*/60* is a pretty common setup. However, it's impossible to tell you exactly what you need without fitting you. I recommend getting a hold of your local authorized Titleist rep to schedule a wedge fitting. Take a couple of your short irons with you (ex: #9, PW). That way, he/she, will be able to fill your gap(s) to fit YOUR game/swing. They'll also be able to fit you in to the best wedges with the best bounce for YOUR swing, course conditions, and so on. Making sure you have the correct bounce is a must. Then, depending on your fitting specs, your fitter could setup an RTV to ship your wedges to Titleist to have any work done that you may need.

Brian, first, bounce depends on the type of swing you have. Slider swings (little to no divot) equates to low bounce, and diggers (divots) equates to high bounce. The course conditions that you normally play is also a factor. Wet, soft conditions will respond better to higher bounce wedges, and dry, firm conditions respond better to low bounce wedges. If you take a look at the Vokey Wedge Selection Guide, that'll give you a better idea as to the type of lofts and bounces you'll need. I'm a in between kind of guy. I take a big divot when the course is soft, and take a tiny divot when it's dry, so I have 8 degrees on three of my wedges and 10 degrees on my lob wedge.

In general, Bob Vokey recommends 4-6° of loft between the wedges.  4 if you are more of a mechanical wedge player and up to 6 if you are a feel player with your wedges.  The PW is 47° so if you want two wedges, you could look at the 52° 58° combo or if you want three, your 52,56 and 60 are just fine.  As far as bounce, it depends on what you are using each wedge for.  If you hit your PW well, it has 7° of bounce and the 52.08 will fit right in.  If you find that you are taking large divots with the 52, check out the 52.12.  If you go with just one other wedge, you are going to need something that gets out of the sand, out of the rough and to chip around the greens - a more all around wedge. The 58.09 is a mid bounce, but the 58.12 plays with a little less bounce because of the trailing edge relief.  One way to look at it, is if you are more of a Steve Stricker type wedge player, the 58.09 will work fine and if you are a Webb Simpson type wedge player, the 58.12 would be fine. Adam and Jason Dufner both use the new K wedge which is awesome out of the bunkers and you can still play soft shots around the green.  Bounce is dependent on how your hands manipulate the clubhead when you come into the ball  - it is also affected by the camber and the width of the sole. Whether you are steep, like to slide, whether your turf is softer or firmer, you like to keep your hands in front or even with the ball.  It all affects what bounce and grind you should be playing.  We would recommend seeing a good wedge fitter in your area.  If you would like a recommendation for a fitter in your area, please give us a call at 1-888-TITLEIST.
