Currently playing the Ap1 710 irons and 909 driver/woods/hybrid. Regular flex. I usually purchase my equipment pre-owned to get the most bang for the buck.

Looking to upgrade and would like to hear some opinions. I shoot in the low 90's and drive the ball around 230. Hit my irons straight. Never been fitted.

Option 1: Get fitted and purchase new Ap1 714's.(New woods next year)

Option 2: Get fitted and purchase new 913 driver/woods/hybrid

    Option 3: Purchase pre-owned AP1 712's along with pre-owned 913 woods.

    Option 4: Purchase pre-owned AP2 712's just for fun.

Of course this is more of "I'd like to upgrade to something newer", not "I need to upgrade"

    Thanks,

    Paul

I'm not wild about option 3 or 4.  The 712s from 710s on a pre-owned basis won't make much difference.  The 909s to 910/913 will make a difference because of the Sure-fit system.  The 913s have more OEM shafts and not so many "made for Titleist" shafts.  If you can catch a demo day or golf show to try some of the new shafts, that can give you an idea if a 913 is what you need to make "I'd like to upgrade..." worthwhile.  ...Maybe pre-owned, but maybe new if the wow factor is enough.

    Hey Paul,

Option 1 is what I'm partial to as thats exactly what I am doing.  Just got fit for 714 MBs and will be waiting for the new line of woods. (Debated on getting the 913s but decided I could wait.)  If you can, I would really try to get fitted, especially since you haven't gone through the process.  It's definitely worth it and you may get a little more performance out of your equipment.

All the best with your new clubs, which ever option you go with!

Paul - you definitely need a fitting by a certified Titleist fitter done outside with a Trackman launch monitor.  After that, you can determine your next steps.  I'm confident you can find pre-owned 913 and 714 clubs to meet your fitting requirements.

Stopped by Golfsmith yesterday and hit the 714 AP1s with the s300 stiff shafts. Almost one club length longer than my 710 AP1s.

Then hit the 714 AP2s with the XP 95 stiff shafts. Over one club length longer than my 710 AP1s. Backspin with the 6 iron was 6400rpm.

I really liked the feel of the AP2s, especially the feedback on off center hits. I enjoy spending time on the practice range so I wonder if the AP2s might be a good choice? Looking to have these new irons for several years.

    Happy New Year!

Paul - I was in the same spot last Summer...had 710 AP1 irons and 909 woods.  I "bit the bullet" and went for a custom fitting at Augusta CC to find out what was best for me.  I ended up with the 712 AP2 irons in a shaft I never would have guessed and the 913 D2 in a loft I also never would have picked.  I had saved up my money so I could buy the whole set and I've never made a better golf purchase in over 10 years.  I would recommend going to a Titleist fitting session to get exactly what is best for you.  It might be "off the rack" clubs or it might be something completely different.  Either way, you'll know that you are putting your cash into the perfect set for your swing and that confidence makes all the difference!  Good luck with your purchase and yes, the AP2 irons are incredible!

    Paul,

I just went through a search for new irons myself.  Had a set of 712 CBs that I bought second hand.  Nice irons but I had too much trouble trying to get the long ones in the air.  Thought about having the shafts replaced but decided to do it right this time.  I hit every iron known to man before settling on the 714 AP2.  Went to a fitter and he had me hit every shaft Titleist offers.  Wound up with the XP95 in stiff.  Didn't pay too much attention to distance as that isn't my problem, but boy is it easy to get the long irons to fly.  Now if the set I ordered would just get here so I can play. :)

    Good luck!

    Tony

714's ain't nothing but the truth.  I have a blended set CB/MB.  They feel much better than my 735 and ZB forged.
