    Hi,

I had the opportunity to hit the "T" brand's new Mini Driver and really liked it. The perfect solution for my game and course layout. My question is being a die-hard Titleist loyalist since 1972, I'm wondering (hoping) that our designers are working on something very similar - just better.

I just don't see me putting another brand in my bag, but...

If you are referring to the SLDR driver, that is not something new on the market.  I had a Muzino about three years ago that I purchased from tgw.com that was very similar to that, tried it for a month and sold it for $90 less than I bought it and purchased a Titleist 910D3.  One thing you can count on with the T-brand driver is that within a few months, it will be on sale and a newer model will be out.  History repeats itself.  When Cally came out with their hot three woods over a year ago, I had to have one and within 90 days the price dropped and they had developed a newer model.  So the point I am making is, I switched everything to Titleist and am staying with them because they are truly the best, in my opinion.  They do not make new clubs and change them within 90 days to six months.....confidence in product is the name of the game......but you have to do what is right for you.....but I would not put another brand in my bag, because I can count on my Titleist.......

Just to clarify, this was not the SLDR driver -- its head was smaller than the SLDR but bigger than a 3 metal -- something new. It had 11 degrees loft. I've been a 100 percent Titleist guy since high school - 40 years ago -- I don't plan on changing. I was only reaching out to Titleist to see if they may have something similar in the works.

most companies offer a smaller head. they usually call it a tour only model but there are a few out there that the public can get their hands on. you could always get a f.d  three wood head and turn the loft down with a driver shaft. even the sldr minis are being played at 12 loft. I would pull a phil and play around with different heads at you local course and see what fits your game.

Aside from the economics with the 6 month release cycles, I would hold off on any new design from a shoe or sports wear company for 2 years, just to see if the best new feature since sliced bread was still around. One of my worst purchases was a square head driver.

A fairway wood at the 12-15 degree range to be used in place of a driver can make sense for (especially) higher handicap players when they can't adjust their swing to keep driver in play.  Hitting the sweet spot, or not, with a 43 inch shaft is the counter-argument.  Just have to see if it a real trend or only useful to guys (pros) that can hit it within 10 yards of their driver.

To note, I plan on playing a whole round with just the 15F and see if it is enough more consistent to save the big dog for courses with really wide fairways.

My driver is a 9.50 lofted to a 10.25 which I love and gets me about 250-260 and I am 68 years old.  I carry a 15* 913F delofted to a 14.25 which I use as my three wood and it carries about 230 or so off the tee.....also carry 17*H, 19*H, and 24*H, then 5-P irons....50 and 55 vokey....a lot of shorter par fours will not hesitate to use hybrids....the loft keep most of my clubs in play....

what are you hitting your driver and 3 wood. and what distance are you now getting with the mini driver ? is it worth dropping driver an 3 wood and going mini and 5 wood do you think?

Time will tell if a 260 cc FW is a suitable replacement for a 440-460 cc driver or can do double-duty off the deck, in place of a traditional 160-180 cc FW.  The hardest part with this is where does it fit in the bag of 14.  Might be usable on a shorter course by a longer hitter. ???  Which comes first - the solution to a problem or the marketing to sell that there is a problem?

They already make one hahaha its the FD 13.5 and its awesome. titleist just doesn't get the love that TM dose from the Club junkies.  because they don't market it individually as a mini driver. i still play the 910 version because i just hit it way to well. im good for about 270-280 with it.

    Cheers greens and fairways

I'm with you John; I hit my 910D2 10.5 (set at 11.25 D4) better than any other driver. I have a 913D2, but I still hit my 910D2 better.

If you like it go get it. The good thing about Titleist is that they do more leading than following. You don't see too many gimmicks, like all these "other" manufacturers, and... I also remember the miz equivalent of the "sldr" a few years ago, the difference being the slider weight was in the back instead of along the bottom. I was glad to see someone else remember it too. Like the others have said above, TM will have something "new" out in a couple of months anyway, and forget about their "mini-driver", just like Phil's "frankenwood" by cally. Where's that? If you like Titleist, then get the Fd. With the weight forward and the lower loft, you'll get what you're looking for, easier to hit, more distance that a 3 wood (can we please not call them 3 metals; irons haven't been made of iron for decades and we still call them irons, not steels), and you'll have more options with it. Leave the gimmicks to the "other" manufacturers who make and market something new every couple of months

A big AMEN Tom. You've just about said it all, and very well I might add.

I carry a 913D3 8.5 in my bag which goes 285+along with a 913fd 13.5 that goes 265 give or take a few yds. My driver is for pure distance while my 3w is for accuracy. As for the sldr and mini driver, I got to do a "personal" fitting with a TM rep last week and he couldnt put together a club that would come within 10 yds of either of them. He tried for almost an hour and countless combinations but no success on his part. Those two clubs are staying in my bag for a while
