I have a question. I recently purchased a new set of Titleist 714 MB's 3-PW with S-400 dynamic gold shafts. I have been playing Titleist Tour Models from 1985 that I have four sets of and have had each refinished 1 time. I have little life left in the Tour Models and I am looking for a replacement set. The new MB's feel like they have no life in them. I can barely make the ball turn at all...right or left. I thought these were supposed to be the players club....no? Has anyone played the new "blades"? Did you have a similar experience?
  2. The "no life" you're referring to is probably due to the fact that you're comparing a pure blade from the past, to a new model that's been designed and re-designed over and over with forgiveness incorporated.  This is merely speculation, but myself and some buddies frequently talk "blades", and this is a recurring topic.  I'd imagine if a player took a DCI 5 iron and a 714 CB 5 iron they too would see considerable differences in performance.

I'm thinking its the Indian, not the arrow on this one. You have to have some club head speed to game these. This is the first time I have ever heard anyone mention "lack of workability" in the MB's.

I play to a three handicap, have 105 mph swing speed with a driver. I have played blade irons my whole life from Wilson Dynapower, to First Flight, to Hogans and since 1991 when I bought 4 sets of Titleist Tour Models I have been playing them, With the older blades I can draw and fade the ball 5 to 6 yards but with the 714MBs I get maybe 1 yard either way if I really really try. It appears to me...imho....that they have engineered the "playability" right out of them. I have had all my sets rechromed and regrooved twice each and they are at end of life now. I have one set I will play this year and then I need something else. Maybe the MP 4 Mizunos ....I don;t know. I think if you can find an old blade iron and hit it side by side with the new blades...you will see what Im talking about

  5. I felt the new MB irons are very playable... in fact I have been experimenting using them for half my set because of the extreme workability.   IMHO

I used to game 690 MB's and went to AP2's from them.  I have hit both the 712 & 714 MB's with no problem working the ball.  I still hit my 690's occasionally and the new versions feel just as good if not better.

Are all of your old sets the same specs as this new set?

    Hi Tim,

The 690 MB's do have different specs from the 712 and 714 MB's. I have attached the product page below.

Please let me know if there are any other questions.

    Take care,

    Hi Tim,

I just re read the post and realized you were asking Dave if his old set has the same specs as his new set, you weren't asking us. Apologize for the confusion.

    Take care,

The new 714MB's were the same...2 degrees flat....2 degrees weak to match the tour models. I play  True Temper Dynamic Gold s-400 shafts in all my irons. The swing weights and balance points were the same. I would say hit both and you be the judge...Im just saying they are two very different clubs and I find I can work the tour models and can not work the MB's
