I'm HPC 15 and consider buying the new AP2 Iron set ... and then trying to become single-digit !
The Specs of the new AP2 show the possibilty of including an 51ºW in your Iron Set (in addition to the 47ºP)
Going for it would allow me feel very well suited for my short game (complementing with 2 Vokey Wetches 54 and 60).
Not including that Iron W, I could have a 3 Iron instead and then just have P, 52 and 58 for the short game.
What is your view on these two options ? Many thanks for any experience shared !!
the 3i vs. gap wedge discussion is always fun. the 3i is a blunt force weapon that usually brings every hazard on a hole in play when you're a 15 hpc. on the other hand, the gap wedge can be quite the opposite when mastered, and much easier to master. if we assume you don't have any problems reaching par 4's in regulation on the courses you play, then most assuredly you'd get more use from a gap wedge over a 3i. and if you intend to mostly hit full shots with your gap wedge the case for matching the gap wedge to your iron set, including the shaft --rather than matching the 51*'s shaft to your wedges -to me, is a strong one. simply stated, the gap wedge in my view is more useful.
