I am a 10 handicap, but play my irons pretty well. My biggest struggles are around the green. I have never played blades before, but I did demo this irons and hit them really well. I liked the feedback

Re: 712 MB irons

Make sure you get fitted. I am not as tall as you, but I am 6'1". I am also going to be playing a lot more this year ( 2-3 rounds per week). The group that I play with are all about 1-4 handicaps and are pushing for me to switch to the MBs. I have such a high ball flight right now with my clubs and am hoping that this will help me with a better ball flight for playing in the wind up here in ND. Thanks for your help.

Re: 712 MB irons

Last year I made the switch from an old set of DCIs to 710MBs, and I will not go back for a while. My handicap at the time of the switch was 15, but I wasn't playing a lot (4-5 times/year), but like you I always hit my irons well. By working on my tee shot and grooving my swing and playing more, I'm starting this year with an 8.5 handicap. Unfortunately, the season ended as everything was coming together.

Bottom line is that I love the feel of the MBs. Yes, they are less forgiving on heel and toe shots, but my misses are usually fat/thin so I wasn't too concerned about that. I'm also 6'5" tall with a high swing speed that tends to hit a high ball. I tried the AP2 and the MBs, and the MBs were just as consistent during my fitting. What swayed me was the soft feel and the better ball flight.

I love my MBs, but they aren't for everyone. I knew my problem was off the tee, and I had old irons with a worn sweet spot to prove it. There's nothing like a well struck shot with an MB. If you're a feel player, they are amazing around the green. The only annoying thing about them is listening to golfing buddies tell you you're nuts for getting MBs since you're not a scratch golfer.
