The "on the range" fitting will be the tell tale. I agree with Cathi, the club has to look and feel good to him, after that its all about

the contact and "preferred" ball flight. The launch monitor will help there. In my opinion, the shaft is problably the most important

component of the club.

I think Lee Trevino said, if you have the right shaft, you can strap a coffee can to it and hit it!

Make sure the shaft is right, try them all. I was a Dynamic Gold guy forever, now I'm a KBS Tour shaft guy because of the launch

monitor.

Its not the club that makes the golfer.

If he is truly a 3HDCP, he can hit ANY club and play well. As Jack N. recently stated, he played 3 different sets of clubs depending on what course he was playing. a good golfer is a good golfer. Clubs can help, but so many golfers todaya think the club will make them play 5 strokes better a side. Aint true. :)

Whatever club feels good to your son, go for it.....

I am a 1.7 handicap and play AP2's...the MB's and CB's did not work as well for me. I used to have png i3 Blades and png i20's. There was a transition period of a few months to get used to the different look at address. I would suggest your son consider whatever looks and feels the best...of course having the right shaft in the club will make a large difference as well!

A fitting is the way to go. If he likes the look of AP1's over any of the other models, and hits them well, he should go with them. Please note that Ben Curtis won the Valero Texas Open and was second at the Players Championship. He plays AP1 irons.

About 30% of our players on the PGA Tour this year played AP2's, 44% played MB's and 25% played CB's.

I think the AP2's are better for the more skilled player. I actually play the 710's for a less forgiving club. Since I like to move the ball a lot.

Go with the fitting. Go out to the range, or better hopefully the fitting is at the range instead of indoors. Hit them both. See where the performance distance differences are based on his swing, and most important which one he likes the feel of better, checking out different shaft options too. Feel is a big part of the game moving to your confidence level. Base in on the entire picture, performance, how they look to him, the feedback from the professional fitter, and how they feel to him. Put it all together and he'll end up with a top quality club, fit specifically for him, that he has confidence in before he even starts his match.

At a 3 hdcp, your son really should be getting the Titleist CB's or even MB's. They are much more precise forged clubs. The AP2's are great, and as a 3 handicapper, they are still a great option. PLEASE do not give a 3 handicapper a pair of AP1's. Those are game- improvement irons, for high handicappers looking to get better. I would recommend a mixed sets of Titleist CB's in p-7 and the AP2's 6-4 or so. Hope this helps
