I would love to see a flat black driver. I understand Titleist not wanting to go white or any other color. But having a "flat black" would help reduce the glare so much. Please consider for the 915 or beyond series. With Titleist red pin striping on the sole would look really nice.

You can always find a good auto shop to do the painting for you.  Lot of good threads on this stuff at another site if you wanted to try a DIY job or get info on who does this kind of work.  The cost is not astronomical.  Then you have a custom driver.

  4. I'm in-different on shiny black vs matte black....I think honestly you'd see scratches more on the matte... however if Titleist is going to aviod white drivers (cool with me)... how about some white shafts, or lighter color shafts as stock offerings?

A white shaft against a black club head really helps with set up.  My one and only gripe with the 910/913 series is that the stock shaft I fit into is black (A'hina).  Who wants an all black club?... not me.  I settled with the PX 7B3... but would still like some sort of contrast... and not have to pay a premium price for it.

    Thanks Titleist.

Another thing I like about my 910D2 is the black head. I guess a flat black head would be O.K. but to me, a flat black head would cheapen the look of the driver, and as far as the multitude of colored drivers out today, I'd never buy anything but black. Those colored drivers are a distraction for me. The shaft in my 910 is a deep red which looks nice to look at, but when I set up to the ball I never notice what color the shaft is, I'm looking at the head and the ball. Just my opinion though.

  6. I'd love to see Titleist try a little color. Their clubs perform great but design-wise are about as exciting as tapioca pudding.

How about black cherry? That super dark shade that, at first, you think is black but then realize it really isn't until you look very very closely and see that it's actually red.

I'm surprised some engineer hasn't come up with a type of colored plastic sheeting that you could wrap around a golf shaft, maybe melt it on with some hot air gun so players could change the color of their graphite shafts. For traditionalists, they could choose a nice dark grey and cover up some of those garish graphics.

For the record, I am a Titleist fan and I like tapioca.

I'd really like to see Titleist not change a thing on the top of the club.  I love the clean look of a Titleist driver and that is a huge part of why I buy them (doesn't hurt that I hit them really well too).  I don't want graphics, different colors, funky alignment marks etc...just keep doing the clean and simple Titleist thing and I'll keep buying.

I don't love flat black either...I could maybe live with it, but it wouldn't be my first choice I don't think (though I do like the flat black D+ shaft this year.

I'm with you. I like that Titleist keeps things "traditional" and doesn't try to make claims on distance or performance and let the clubs speak for themselves.

flat or matte black is great.  no colors please, although i'd like for titleist to take it a step further and just do away with the alignment triangle on the top of the head just like they did for the 913h clubs.  very clean and classy.

Here's another example of different likes, and dislikes. Personally, I depend on the alignment triangle a lot since I seem to hit the ball in a different place on the driver head from one day to the next. Not a lot, but sometimes enough to hit or miss the sweet spot. Yesterday (Monday) when I started off I lined up the ali. mark in the center of the ball, and when I hit it I hit to the outside of the SS. Today, was just the opposit. The alignment mark helps me know just where I'll hit the ball most all day. This also helps when I use one of those stick on labels that leave a ball inpression mark on the label when you hit the ball.

I'm with you on this topic.  I love the triangle on the drivers and fairways, and wish that the hybrids had them too.  As for colors of the drivers, keep them the same!  I liked the white at first, but then it got old.  The shiny black is the way to go in my opinion.

I play a 901D2 and love the look as-is. I believe Titleist should remain classy and conservative in their product presentation. Gimmicky looks are for lesser brands. In response to the shaft colors, I have the 70 gram Ilima, plenty of color and graphics, but when addressing the ball. I do not notice the shaft, only the head and the back of the ball. My 2 cents worth.

    OOPS! 910D2.

  15. You can only do "same old, same old" for so long, before some sort of change has to be implemented.  Apple is proving this as we speak (iOS reference).  People buy it, cause they trust... but are subconsciously dissatisfied with having spent a lot of money on basically the same product.  Suggesting only dark colors are ok, is a touch irrational... A product can have contrast and still maintain its traditionality (is that a word?).

Flat black... by no means = "Gimmicky"

Non-dark shafts... by no means = "Gimmicky"

    My 2 cents worth.

I could not agree more!  The clean classic look of my 910D2  just sets it apart.  I think the Titleist look on their woods is the best.

In my opinion Titleist has the most beautiful clubs in the market--whether irons or woods. Part of Titleist's success has been their reluctance to follow the "circus" of the wide open club arena. Titleist's look--their entire brand is defined by their traditional, classic look that is unrivaled by no one else.

With that said, I do think that having a flat black option would be sweet!  Perhaps for $50 more, customers can purchase the flat black (military "black ops" style) whereas that extra $50 could go towards the Wounded Warriors Project.  It is a very sweet look and I really think that Titleist would not be straying from their overall brand by going this direction. It could be a limited edition release that is sold ... Perhaps only 10k or 25k for sale for 2014 and a percentage of the proceeds go towards something "good", thus maximizing awareness AND also helping a good cause ...

And Steve Stricker would probably want to have a flat black driver to match his custom flat black Ford pickup.  ;-)

Love the current 913 look. Nothing wrong with flat but the current look is great. I have no issues with glare  and I live in Arizona

  22. Absolutely!!! A matted Black Driver would be the sexiest looking club out there. Keep it with the Black Shaft to have it all murdered out. Yes Titleist.. Please give us a Matted Flat Black Driver!!!

I am in agreement.  Most of the new colors and looks are distracting.  I prefer to focus on my swing thoughts, not the flash of the club going by.

I matte-out all my Titleist woods because of the glare. It's actually quite simple, here's what I do:

Take your average nail polish remover (doesn't need acetone) and cover the top of the club using a cotton-swab. (Generous application.) Then use steel wool and scrub off the shiny paint. Be patient, you'll have to dry it off and see what parts you've missed and are still shiny and then re-do the process focusing on the part you missed. I use a small circular motion and have to press firmly. (Put the bottom of your club on a towel on the counter.) You won't make it down trough the base coat, these clubs are matte black underneath the shiny stuff. This process will leave some really small scratches over the surface of the club, but don't worry... Next take some vehicle scratch remover from your local Auto Zone or O'reilly's and follow the instructions to polish the head. (I use Quixx Scratch Remover, IMO it is by far the best on the market.) You can buy the kit on Amazon for $15. It has a three-step process for removing the scratches, but I don't use the wet-sand part. It also works wonders on your car :)

I get comments all the time on my woods when I'm on the range and course. People think they look like prototype or custom clubs. I've literally given this advice to tour players who really liked the results. I've successfully done this to my 905R Driver, all my 910 woods and just finished the work on my 913's.

If you're super-duper anal about the club looking PERFECT you might not want to attempt this, but to me my clubs are tools to get the job done and the matte black adds function as well as a unique look that draws attention. Also, if you're someone who has dropped their club and have scratches anyway, this is an awesome way to get rid of those distracting scratches.
