I was at Golfsmith this weekend and decided to hop into one of the hitting bays that had a launch monitor hooked up.

I already own a 913D2 and decided to hit a few shots with one, since I've been going through lessons and a swing change.  I wanted to see where my numbers were.  No major surprises and of course I was very happy with the performance.

For all the touting of extra distance from competing club manufactures, I was curious and grabbed a few other drivers and started swinging away.  I tried the R1, G20, and Razr Fit Xtreme.  Not one was close with respect to distance or accuracy.  I was a good 10-15 yards on average shorter and less consistent with respect to drawing the ball.  I found the Razr the longest of the other 3, the R1, the shortest.

So if anyone hasn't picked up a 913 yet, I always highly recommended it before.  Now even more so.  Titleist continues to make the best clubs in the game.

Your comments are good to here, Keith. I'm hitting a 910D2 now, but just bought a 913D2 which should arrive tomorrow. I'm really anxious to see how the two compare. Also, my 910D2 has a 'ilima 61 "A" flex shaft, where the 913D2 has a Bassara 50  "R" flex, so I'll also be able to have two shafts to see which one works best.

I have a Bassara A flex on my 19F and Bassara R flex on my 27H. AP1 irons are R flex and Vokeys are wedge flex.  They work great for me.

I'm thinking about a 910D2 12* with Bassara A flex set up at 44" with the most upright lie angle (probably D2, A2, D3 or A3).  I used a 44" driver for about 3 years (975D and png G2) and liked the fact that I could swing away with it but the only issue is tended to fade it.  44.5" has been working good for almost 3 years now (I have a 2007 Burner that I hit very well and it actually hits better than the R11).

Lou; I did go to a demo day here a few months ago, and hit a 913D2 10.5* with a Bassara 50 "A". flex. My ball flight was very high, so you will really get the ball high with a 12* in "A" flex. It is a lighter shaft than most (48gr.) so that may add even more height to your drive. I'm going to try  the Bassara R flex shaft that came with the 913D2 that I just got, but I'm afraid my ball flight will be too high, so I'll probably take the "ilima 61 "A" flex out of my 910D2, and put in the 913. The Bassara shaft is a high launch shaft where the 'ilima 61 is a mid/high launch shaft. Just wanted to let you know that the Bassara is a great shaft (and good looking shaft also) but it will give you a really high ball flight. It will be great if you have a little trouble getting the ball up in the air from your "T" shots.  Norris:

I've been hitting a 13* draw driver for almost 3 years now (2K7 Burner with Reax M flex shortened from 45.75 to 44.5 with a Dri Tac Lite grip) and I have a moderate trajectory.  Going from a 10.5 neutral driver to a 13 degree draw driver is probably the best thing I did.   I'm pretty accurate with it.

I've found my best tee height is the traditional "half the ball above the crown" (about 1 1/2" with a 460 cc driver) that we learned back in the real wood days.  If I tee the ball even with the crown (the so-called recommendation these days with a 460 cc driver) I hit a "moon ball' that goes about 190 yards.   I've hit a few great drives over 250 with it but generally hit around 220-240.  Also have a controlled stinger shot that I use on the 190-210 yard par 3s.   I went to a demo day with this "old man" driver in 2011 and was totally blowing away some R11s with 10.5 loft.

Just prior  I used a png G2 10.5 with Pro Launch Blue r flex and would get very high ball flight with a dead straight drive; my best distance was a power fade (about a 30 yard difference -somewhere around 230 or so).

In 2007, my dad gave me an X speed driver and Titleist 975F (16.5 and 20.5), all with ProForce65 ATR stiff and they had very high trajectories.  I reshafted the driver to Pro Launch Red r flex and that lowered the trajectory (still got rid of it because I hit a 975D much better and played that one until 2009, when I switched to the G2; the latter was much easier to hit).  I changed the fairway shafts to DG R300 and used them until 2010.

I also briefly had a 975D 10.5 driver with ProForce 65 stiff (stiff tip) and it actually had a high trajectory.  I ended up using a another 975D driver with a bone stock regular shaft (cut to 44" and installed an Excel RF grip) and it had a lower trajectory (I've hit it 250 a couple times but generally around 210-220).    I used the latter from 2007-2009.

Lou; I had a big surprise today with the 913D2 driver that I just got. As I mentioned before, it has a Bassara50 Reg. flex shaft, and I was figuring it would have a high ball flight, since I hit the same club at a demo day, only thing different was the one I hit at the DD had an "A" flex shaft. I hit the 913 for the first time today, and it had a low ball flight. In fact, the 910D2 that I've been playing has a 'ilima61 shaft w/"A" flex. I was hitting the 'ilima 61 910D2 higher than the Bassara Reg. flex. Wasn't expecting that at all, so I guess the shaft flex does have quite a bit of difference in height of the ball flight. I did hit the 913 w/bassara better than my 910D2 'ilima 61, but not really enough to justify the price of the new driver. Oh well, I have the 913 now, and my brother wants my 910, so I'll get some of my money back there. For me, I think the 913 is a better driver than the 910, but not by much. Both clubs are the best drivers I've ever hit. Another thing that you mentioned that I've noticed with the Titleist drivers is now I have to "T" up the top of the ball even with the top of the driver head. Before I switched to Titleist I was hitting a Cleve Launcher & Cleve Hi Bore before that and I always teed the ball 1/2-3/4 of the ball higher than the top of the driver. haven't figured out why yet, but that the way it is.

I have a Bassara A flex on my 19F (it is also shortened to 41").  I get a much lower ball flight vs a TM Burner 7 wood with the Reax R flex shaft.

Even my 27H (with Bassara R flex) has a rather low ball flight vs an SQ2  6-26 or Superfast 2.0 6-27.

Even with my current driver I tee the ball up about 1 1/2" from the ground.  If I teed it with the bottom of the ball even with the crown, I would hit a moon ball.

Realize my other post is floating....

I am about 20 miles from the Carlsbad facility.  Also have a go-to fitter/repair person near work that I have been using since 2009 (Jesse at Fairway Golf).  Will go do a driver fitting one of these days when I decide to upgrade but I am pretty happy with what I have and I have to admit that I have been playing some very good golf this year (lowest score on a par 34 exec course is +1 and finally broke 40 for 9 holes on a regulation 3100 yard layout a couple months ago - shot a +2 39 at Adm Baker South and then followed up at Riverwalk with a 40 on the next round; my normal round on a par 36 layout is 43 and about +3 on a par 30 exec).

I'm a bit of a tinkerer also.  Constructed a set of irons, 2 fairway woods and 3 hybrids in 2009 and recently constructed a 31* hybrid that I used until I picked up an SQ2 6-30.

    great story Keith!

That's why I put the 913 in the bag.  Hit with it in a bay at a local store and it was more consistent than my 910.  Titleist definitely keeps getting better at the woods!  I also hit a 913F 15* and that thing is RIDICULOUS!!  It kicked out an old 909.

Justinu3, great story I'm just the opposite, bought a new 913D3 didn't care for it, couldn't work the ball at all. Returned for the 910D3 with same shaft and just love it. Tried the 910 and 913 fairways but I couldn't find the right combination so I stuck with my 909's. Its funny how everyones preference and what works for them is so different. Gotta loves this game!
