Hi I am a 6 hcp that practices about 3 times a weak. I currently have the AP1 710's and am looking for some new irons. I was looking at he AP2's but then I tried the MB's and smoked every one I hit, I was hitting them much better than my AP1's. I was told I wouldn't be able to hit them so I wasn't really considering them. Does anyone have any clues why this occurred

    Thanx

IMHO, It sounds like your a very good ball striker and that you put a good dose of spin on the ball. If the AP2's were ballooning on you and the MB's were giving you a more boring ball flight, then get the MB's. AP2's would put more spin on the ball than the MB's and the AP1's even more spin. If you are ballooning the ball a bit, or even hitting the ball really high, then the MB's would be the answer.

    Hope this helps.

Dylan; Don't know who would tell you that you couldn't hit the MB's. If your a 6 hcp I see no reason why the MB's wouldn't be a great club for you. It sounds like your skills are way past the AP's.

The logical explanation would be the ground offers less resistance to the sharp edge on a blade iron vs the rounded edge on a semi game improvement iron.  Also depends on your ball striking style - if you tend to be a slider, the MB probably works better; if you tend to be a digger, the AP1 works better.

I had a similar situation with a set of GT3 irons vs my trusty X31s in 2006.  I found it easier to pick the ball off a tight lie with the latter.

I am 13 years old and I was told that I wouldn't be strong enough to be able to hit them

When I was 13, the only choice we had was blades.   Even old ladies hit blades back then.

Strength has nothing to do with the clubhead.   Swing speed isn't necessarily related to strength either - explain why a 15 year old female who probably weighs about 110 lb can drive a golf ball 280+ yards (the world #1 amateur) and why a male who weighs about 270 and bench presses 400 lb barely drives it 220 yards.

At any age, blades have a penalty for off center hits.  If you can control the head that well through contact, you can hit a blade.  At your (and mine at 63) age it is not as common to have great ball striking control.  ...However, the generalization does apply to me... LOL.
