I bought my 762's new when they came out, have the rifle shafts in them. I do not plan to get rid of them but just kinda want to get some new sticks.. My game hasn't changed a lot over the past 12 or so years. I just want to know which of the new irons would be considered the most comparable to the old 762s?

Also, About 5 or 6 years ago I began to really notice the difference in size of my irons compared to the over sized irons that everyone seemed to be playing at the time.. How do the new irons compare size wise?

       Thanks for any help

to elaborate... I am curious if a titleist rep could offer to me what I would see different in AP2 or the 714 CB compared to my 762s

    Phillip,

Those irons most compare to the 714 AP2.  The 762 irons were a cast iron compared to the 714 AP2 being forged, but the head size, top line and sole thickness were very comparable.  In our newer 714 models, the AP1 will be the most forgiving and have a larger head size than the AP2.  The 714 AP1 are a cast iron head and work well for the player looking for the most forgiveness.  The AP2 would be better for a player looking for less forgiveness and more work ability.

    Thanks for the info,

What would be the biggest difference in the 762 and the 714 CB?

    Phillip,

The biggest difference would be that the 714 CB are a forged iron.  This will have an effect on fell.  The 714 CBs will play less forgiving than the 714 AP2 and similar in forgiveness to the 762s.  The feel and work ability is more improved in the 714 CBs compared to the 762s.

okay, thanks.. should that lead me to believe that the 762 is somewhere between the AP2 and CB as far as forgiveness and work ability and therefore If I want to go to a more forgiving version of the 762 I should go AP2 or a more workable version of the 762 then I should go with the CB

    Phillip,

I would still say that the 714 AP2 irons would be more workable and forgiving.  They are a more advanced and high performing iron than the 762s.  The CBs have not changed a lot over the years, but with minor changes to the sole they will play with better feel.  They will also be the more workable iron than both the 762s and 714 AP2s.
