  1. I only have 13 clubs in my bag and want to add either a 712u or another hybrid. Is there a big difference between the two?

    Hi John,

    Thanks for the post.

There is a difference between the 712U and either a 913H/HD in the corresponding loft. The 712U performs more like an iron with a more penetrating, lower flight. Both hybrids tend to fly higher. I would try to think about what you want the club for. Do you need another option off the tee or into the green? Also try to find a local fitter and hit both options to determine which one you like better.

    Hope this helps.

Personally, I prefer the 712U.  The 913H is a great club but I find myself using the 712U much more often.  I feel incredibly confident with it off the tee and it also plays well from the fairway.  I currently have a 3iron 712U and 19 degree 913H but I think I will be replacing the 913H with a 2 iron 712U.

John, you have to ask yourself what you want the club  to do??  I carry the 712U 3iron  and 910H 21*,  the 712 U is strickly driving iron when i need 240 yards low and hot ... the 910H  is for a 235-240 that lands soft  mainly for longer par 3s , and for going for two on par fives, again that lands soft.  So thats your choices , whatever you decide go get fitted..

    John,

Everyone made great points so far.

I have the Hybrids and I have the 712U 2 iron as well (I carry an MB 3 iron). I switch the Hybrid and the 712U 2 iron quite often. For a good player the 712U is pretty easy to hit. It looks great as well. The ball flight can be controlled much easier than a Hybrid. I use the 712U off the tee and off the fairway but I find the Hybrid (not surprisingly) easier to play from the rough. The Hybrid will land softer than the 712U but the 712U can hold pretty well if struck well and one wants to have some spin on it. In windy conditions I usually use the 712U. In calmer conditions on courses that require carrying on the green and stopping the ball quicker I will select the hybrids. So I would agree with the others, there is a pretty good difference between them. For me it was not an "either or" it was "both". I hope this helps a bit.
