Just purchased a set of AP2 714 irons 5-PW with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts. I am very happy with the set and am playing very well with the irons. My problem is tendonitis in my left wrist and arthritic issues in both hands. I am 51 years old and have been thinking of switching to graphite to alleviate some of this pain I deal with every year. I am thinking of sending the clubs back to Titleist to have them re-shafted but am looking for suggestions as to which shaft would still provide the same or similar ball flight that I experience now. I have a medium trajectory with a slight fade. Any suggestions?

    Greg,

The lowest launching graphite options that we offer, which would be similar in launch to the Dynamic Gold S300, would be the Aerotech Steelfiber shafts and the Aldila NV 105.

Appreciate the information. Any suggestions for a person with a moderate late release? Also how will the swing weight be affected? What kind of time frame and cost would be associated with having Titelist take care of this?
    Thank You,
    Greg Olson

  4. Bonjour Gregory,

I am 51 years old, my game is between 76-85, drive 230-250. Last year an elbow problem started on my iron (i played TM CGB max, reg steel), and i decide to go on graphite on my iron. Because i am from the north (Quebec city) and i was playing last march at Myrtle. i didn't have facility to do a fitting session (this is a must). So i guessed, and change my improve game iron to AP2 714 with Recoil prototype 95 F4. It took at least 20 games to get use to AP2 (because they are close to blade), and for the shaft....WOW, elbow vibration gone for ever (my main concern). The feel is great, even on missed shot, but on a Titleist DEMO day at my club i had the chance to tried a Steelfiber (reg) on 6 iron, and again WOW.

So if your main concern is the elbow, for sure graphite will take care of it. If your main concern is scoring, go for the steelfiber, my reason is DISPERSION. The recoil proto is fine, but when i was hitting the steelfiber i saw more precision. The flight was about the same. And for the elbow, well...steelfiber is really better than steel, but is slightly more "hard" on the elbow than the recoil prototype.

For your medium trajectory and slight fade, i think both shaft will do the job. For sure steelfiber on reg will be fine, on recoil, you should try F3 and F4.

I have to finish on $, well both shaft are pretty expensive. You also have a version of recoil cheaper with less torque than prototype (see the UST website for detail)

    Hope this help.

    Benoit
