Vokey Wedge grinds

I currently carry an older 254-10 that I had bent to a 53-9 and I want to upgrade.  I want to keep the 53-9 configuration so to keep the gaps in my other wedges, but have several options in the SM5s.  I could take the 54.10 M or the 54.10 S and bend them down, but these do not cover all swings or conditions.  I could take the 52.08 F and bend it up.  I'm favoring this because the F grind is for all swings and all conditions and seems the most versatile.  My question is this, does changing the loft (and bounce) of the F grind significantly change the performance of the grind (swings and conditions)?  Thanks.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the question.

If you were to take a 52.08 and bend it to 53, other than the reduction of bounce by 1 degree, there would not be a significant change in the performance.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bubba,

Thanks for the quick response.  However, you confused me a bit.  I've always thought that when you change the loft, you also change the bounce by the same amount in the same direction.  For example, you say that there would be no change in grind performance by changing the 52.08 up to the 53, but you said that the bounce would be "reduced" by one degree.  I would have thought that the bounce would have gone up to 9 degrees.  Am I missing something? Thanks again.

Mark,

You are correct, I misspoke. When you add loft (52 to 53) you would ADD 1 degree of bounce. If you reduce the loft, you reduce bounce.  And yes, it is a 1-to-1 ratio.

While changing loft does change bounce, it does not significantly change the performance of the grind.

Thanks,

Bubba

Bubba,

Thanks.  I'll probably get the SM5 52.08 F when I go to my golf shop to pick up the 913H 27* that I'm waiting for.  Fairways and greens.
