  1. I know this has been posted and asked before but my question still is unanswered. I am gonna have my 907D2 re-shafted and I found a 4" parallel shaft for it. But it says installation 3.5 to 4". I'm not sure which to use and why? Is there a reason for the 2 different installation lengths? I also want the driver to play at 44" so is there any tip trimming required with the shortening of the shaft? Or what is the recommended tip trim? The shaft is a Grafalloy Pro-Launch Platinum. Any and all advice and info on this install is welcomed as I want to give it to my installer with as much pertinent information as possible.

Hi Mark, There will be no tip trim on that shaft with the 907's bore-thru hosel. Starting with the 975 series, Titleist's were all about 3 inches so that's why you have to get a shaft with at least a 3 inch parallel section for normal installation. The 3.5" to 4" may be a reference to bore depth. Cutting to playing length will only be done from the grip end with this job. Since 45 inches was the 907 stock playing length, at 44 the swingweight will go down a bit depending on the grip you use. That may feel fine to you but can be adjusted later (w/o taking the club apart) if you like by adding weight to the head in a couple different ways.
  3. Thank You Ken and Cathi. I guess I still have one confusing mind cause I maybe don't understand parallel tip as much as taper tip which is generally backwards perhaps. But if the shaft has a 4" tip not 3", how do you install it. Do you install it thru the bottom and cut and trim from the bottom of the head, or do you take an inch or so off before installation...or neither. Just install it as is do depth pre-angled cut with no trim at all of the tip. I don't understand how a 3" or 3.5" or 4" tip insertion could possibly play the same. I guess all shafts are different and therein is the research I need to be doing. But I was told by Grafalloy that no tip trimming was to be done so apparently shaft is also designed to go into Titleist bore thru, and to be tipped for standard bore. Let me say it this way, I guess I thought parallel tips were made to be trimmed to fit the insertion length, and that is where I was misinformed. If the bore was 2.5" I thought you removed 1.5"(with a 4" tip) or if bore depth was 3.5" you removed a 1/2".  This is where the comment that shafts were generally 3.5 to 4" tip in this clubs made me want to be sure that there was no difference in the recommended tip length. There I just muddied up and made myself sound even more lost, but I am  not I get it now.

We used 3.5" to 4" parallel tipped shafts to build our bore thru drivers.  The shaft was inserted through the head, the excess trimmed and the end filled and buffed.  The length was trimmed at the butt end of the shaft. These shafts were built for our bore through heads so you may want to inquire with Grafalloy about using the full parallel length of your shaft on a bore thru head.

Hi Mark, I recently reshafted my 907 with a Grafalloy Pro-Lite. No tip trim. Nice combination. Good Luck!!
