I recently put the 714 MBs in my bag, only a selected few, 7-PW. I have noticed that i am losing about half a clubs distance with the MB's as opposed to my 714 AP2s. I went in to a local golf shop and started hitting balls, the RPM rate for my MBs was a 1000 more on average as opposed to my AP2. I only took my 7 irons in with me to hit but i feel like this is the same for all of the MBs. What would be the reasoning for this, why are the MBs producing so much more spin. I generally hit the ball where i am supposed to on the face of the club, see attached.

Good Question! The iron spin should be 1000 x the number of the club. That a 7 iron should produce 7000 rpms. I wouldn't worry unless your over 8000 rpm's. It could be that the AP2 has a hotter face than the blade, the ball is leaving a little faster with lower spin? The AP2 has 1* stronger loft that may reduce some spin? I can tell you this from experience, on solid center contact there is nothing more consistent & true than a forged blade!

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for the question.

The most likely reason for the increase in spin with the MB over the AP2's is the loft difference. The AP2's are 1 degree stronger in the 6-PW Vs. the MB's. I would suggest checking the loft of both clubs and matching them up. From there, check the spin rates of both clubs and make your decision based off which club gives you the most control and will help you shoot lower scores.

    Hope this helps.
