Do you think a 1degree change in loft would be noticable to the average player. Plus or minus

    Hi Larry,

I have found that most of the time 1 degree of loft change does make a noticeable difference for the average player. Whether it helps increase or decrease launch and spin or if it causes better turf interaction due to the changing bounce, a loft change often creates a difference.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Larry, my fitter at my Titleist TPI Fitting at Oceanside recommended a one degree weak setting on all my 714 AP2's as a reflection of Bubba's comments.

It has helped me in a variety of ways!

    Thanks, Chris

I would think that the shaft could counter act loft also. Say a low launch shaft with - 1 degree loft compared with a +1 with a high launch shaft.

My fitter set my AP2s lie at +1* and my shafts at +1 inch, while my lofts are 2*s strong. I can really launch my irons when my tempo is right.

I think it depends on what exactly you are looking for and how often you play.  If you bent your current irons one degree, you might notice a slight change.  If you are looking for a new set and found one used but it was bent a degree, I think they would still be perfectly fine without you noticing a problem.

Not sure but I have read that most all clubs could be + or - 2 degrees from the factory and that is acceptable. I have seen people ordernew clubs and never even check loft or lie

I've never actually had my clubs checked (I probably should....).  I know the manufacturing process is never perfect, but that seems to be a rather large gap.  It would be interesting to hear what others have found with new sets and what Titleist's official stance on quality control checks would be.

you would probably be suprised if you checked yours. I think every season they should be checked

[/quote] The fitters I buy my clubs from always check the clubs when they come in to ensure the lofts and lies are correct before turning the clubs over to me. After all they have been in a shipping box for a few days, and have traveled across the U.S. Normally they are correct but every now and then one or two might not be dead on. Periodically I will take them in for a fine tuning.

I think the biggest factor would be how steep you are at impact and what angle of launch that creates.  Then shaft change and one degree of loft could make a difference

It makes a difference and I think most people takes not enough care periodically checking the specs of their irons. Loft and Lie are changing by using the irons (e.g. fat shots) and some people would be suprised which specs they are playing.
