Is anyone else hoping that Titleist decides to make this available on a made to order basis?

I for one will be purchasing one if offered to the public.

    My fingers are crossed.

I would love to try it out. I've heard a May release via MOTO.. Has anyone heard if the heads will be made available to fitters ??

that would be a lot of money to spend without being able to be fitted first.

  3. Agree on the need to test and be fitted before making a purchase. From what I read, with the MOI being lower and also more forward COG, it definitely would take some testing to get a handle on the club. It can be a bomber, but the mishits may be more extreme. Not to mention the need to correctly match the shaft with this kind of model.

But love it that Titleist is willing to offer variety. Another reason to love their willingness to continue to create different products for different swings.

I heard that it will be available to order, but not available to buy in stores. And good point about the fitting. You never know Stallings may let you hit his at the range if you ask nice enough and promise not to pop it up. =)
  5. they will probably be made available at the upcoming Titleist Trial Day Events...

  6. It seems like this will be a great release! Cant wait to see what it feels/sounds like when it is released compared to the D2 and D3!

I hear it will be available in May.

Definitely targeted toward the player who would get fit, so I'm not sure how they'll address that.  I'm sure the typical fitting cart won't have a D4 head added.

Perhaps they'll fit for them regionally.

  9. Any further updates on the D4? Will these heads be available at fitting centers or at various demo days?  Plus, will the D4 be available in LH?

    Thanks!

    Hi

    D4's will be RH/LH in 8.5°, 9.5° and 10.5° 450cc

The address profle and face height will be smiliar to the 915 D3 and the surefit hosel will be compatible with 913 and 910.  It will have similar launch, but lower spin than the 915 D3.

Tour facilities, Performance Vans, Regional facilities, Advanced Fitters and Tech reps will have the RH 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5 as well as the LH 9.5 and 10.5 later this summer.

  11. Good info Cathi. Thanks so much. Love that Titleist has this new offering.

    Cathi,

    Thank you for the information.

To follow up, will custom shaft options be included in the $599 MSRP, or is the buyng process the same as the current D2, D3 process with an additional up charge?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

    Whaaat...US only??!

And $150 more than the D2 & D3, it sounds like JDM to me.

Any reason why it's a US only release?

    Andy, UK

  20. As a market that watches the US product launches very closely, and produces some increasingly great talent - please bring the 915 D4 Driver to the UK. We already find it hard enough to get your custom products (vokey custom wedges, custom shafts and accessories) - they are a superb differentiator from your competition, and a space that generates tremendous owner pride - translating into brand loyalty ! Please listen to your customers...

Hi Andy, The D4 will be a custom only order and is targeted for a much smaller group of players that need less spin than the D3 will provide.  The amount of D4 heads will be more limited, so the decision was made to launch in the US only.

    Cathi,

Is the pre order date coming soon?  I know the rep for my club has not even been told this is going to be released.  Seems like that is a release is coming sometime in the next month the reps would have some info.  Thanks.

I have been playing the D4 since I got it about a week ago. It looks a bit different (I play the 910D3) but it has performed as expected. It definitely reduces spin and it has performed very well for me especially into the wind. I like the ball flight. I am having difficulty adjusting to the sound of the club though. So far I like the performance of the club and expect it will be in the bag from here on out.

Hi when you say adjust to the sound how is it different to say 915 D2? Have you managed to test spin rate against any other drivers (915 D2 or D3) when being fitted?

    MC,

If a player doesn't mind the 915 (or 913) sound then the 915 D4 sound will not be that big a deal imo. I did not upgrade to the 913 or the 915 because the sound was too loud and any benefit wasn't worth the sound change. I love my 910D3.

I did not hit the 915 D2. I did hit the 915 D3 and it is about the same sound as the D4 if I remember correctly. It is "piercing" imo. A high pitch. I played the 910D3 up until a few weeks ago now and that was more pleasing to my ear and continues to be more pleasing to my ear. But I am getting more used to the 915D4 sound. I still would like it if it could be closer to the 910 sound.

On spin rates I can't remember exactly what it was and I hate to give an inaccurate number. Honestly, I am more of a see it perform on the course guy anyway because of different winds and I do swing a bit differently under launch monitor conditions vs being out on the course. To me I see a real world performance difference. It is noticeable and I have taken out the 910D3 and the 915D4 and played 2 tee shots from each driver (same shafts) on each driving hole for several rounds. So I feel like I have tested it pretty fully and for me it is my new driver. I like the performance.

By the way, I play the ProV1x.

Some of the fitters have the heads so I would highly suggest going to one of them in your area and trying it out. Hopefully you will find your best driver with that fitters help.

I hope this helps a bit. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply unfortunately I’m in the UK and its not available here. Big gamble guessing it would be good for you with no fitting data?

  30. James E

    MC,

I would agree that it really is much better to be fit. They can really maximize the end result and that will save the player money by getting the exact right equipment.

Unless you are really having a big spin issue with a D3 and low spin shafts and using a ProV1x I would personally say it would be a bit of a gamble.  So if money is an issue I would probably just get fit for a 915D3 and get the right low spin shaft, get the right launch angle etc. The fitters can do a good job of helping get the spin down.

I am guessing you play in the wind a lot. I will say that I do see a nice difference in the performance of the D4 in the wind (into and in crosswinds). But that is for me and golfers are different. I will say that I personally found that the shafts I have for my 910D3 work nicely for my 915D4. So to me the 915D4 is an incremental benefit and not a totally different world. I found the D4 to be very similar in feel (look is a little different) and it was easy to adjust (other than the sound). But the ball flight was a little better for me and the spin rate was a little lower and I am getting the desired performance I wanted especially in the wind.

I hope this helped you a bit. Hopefully at some point you get to hit a D4 and see for yourself.

I just wanted to update this thread by saying that I have now gotten comfortable with the sound of the club and no longer find it as an issue. In fact, I have to say that the D4 is my all-time favorite driver that I have ever had. The performance I have had with it has surpassed my expectations. Thanks Titleist for making this club and making it available to all of us.

Cathi comes through as always with the details! Thanks!!

With the D3 at 440cc and the D2 at 460cc it appears to fit right in the middle with on paper would be pleasing to the eye! I know I am booming my 915 D3 at the moment so it will be hard to look at the D4....

This driver is incredibly intriguing to me. Certainly would love to demo before purchase, but this is the best looking driver I've seen in a while!

  37. I was at a club fitting for titleist today and they had a D4. The weight is moved to the center of the club to reduce the spin on the ball. They are available but on a made to order basis with a price tag at $550. That is what the fitter told me. I swung it and didn't care for it much- it feels weird and has an odd sound when you hit it.

I bought the D3 and didn't really hit it further than my Alpha, so I stuck with my Alpha.  It's the only none Titleist club in my bag.  Then two weeks later on a golf trip, a buddy had a D4.  Same Rogue Silver X as in my driver.  It was so smooth and I loved it.  I van tell you, it was awesome.  That being said, $450-$550 head only right now stings a bit.  If they bring it out with the next version of woods, I recommend everyone going to get fitted!  I think it might be the holy grail of drivers!

I purchased a 915 D4 with the Aldila Rogue stiff shaft. I purchased it to get the backspin down to get more roll out. I like the club but every time I hit it I think I'm hitting a demarini double wall softball bat. My friend has a 913 D2 and it has that nice solid sound when you hit the ball. I have had a couple of other people hit it and they have all made the same comment. I'm disappointed because I was waiting for Titleist to come out with a lower spinning driver head. It's good except for the sound at impact. Guess I'll have to pull my other driver back out of the garage.

Has anyone else noticed the pinging sound at impact.

Have you thought adding some hot melt to improve the sound?

  41. Dennis G

    Dennis G

I have not thought about that. I was wondering why they didn't foam fill the head to dampen the sound, unless it is because of the weight the foam adds.

I'm assuming you're talking about hot melt glue. Where would I put it? Would I need to get a lighter weight to offset the glue weight?

    Thanks for the response.

  42. 19hole

I don't think the weight would be the issue, you can account for that in other areas. The issue might be that the filling would have a pretty severe impact on the way the face and the ARC channel react. It might possibly negate some of the key benefits of the head design.

Personally, I can cope with any sound as long as I get the results!

Does anyone have any experience with these? They seem pretty hard to come by for a test run. I've played the D3 and liked it, but still managed to spin it a bit. I tested the D3 against the D2 and the D3 was longer and straighter for me. (That didn't really make sense to me given that the D2 should be more forgiving, but the numbers don't lie)

Does anyone have any advice on what to expect with the D4 compared to the other models?

    Thanks!

I'm playing a hot-melted 8.5* D4 with Diamana WB 70S tipped 1" and 44.5" length.  Fantastic setup for me, and one that helped bring the spin down from the D3.  I'm going to experiment with shafts and will try a Matrix 7M3 soon.

The hot-melt changed the sound of the head so it is now a solid "thwack" instead of the metallic "png" it previously made.

Bill P, Did you apply the hotmelt to the crown? and do you happen to remember how much was added and if you changed the weight? Thanks for the insight.

    Jason,

A small amount to the crown and the rest behind the face; the head without adapter weighs in at 202g, if I remember correctly.  I have the white 4g weight installed.

    Best regards,

I found one second hand and couldn't be happier. I had to look for awhile to get the shaft I wanted but I love the driver. As forgiving as the D2 with lower spin than the D3. Looks and feels great too.
