I'm currently playing TM Burner 2.0 irons.  Considering getting fitted for a new set of irons and would prefer playing Titleist AP1 or AP2 if fitting numbers seem appropriate.  I'm wondering how much iron improvements have been made since my last fitting in 2011?

I know there are continuous releases.

Looking for a game improvement iron.

Mike M, The AP series are great. Take "the plunge" and I"m sure you will be satisfied.                                                                                                                                                     steve b

If you got fitted for TM Burner 2.0 you definitely will need to get refitted. Those clubs, by design were super long. In some cases as much as one to two clubs. There will be a major difference in clubs. Only a certified fitter can determine which of the Titleist clubs will best suit you game.

You definitely want to get refitted.  Also, keep in mind TM focuses much more on total distance than Titleist does.  They are more like to "juice" a set of irons up to add distance.  So don't be discouraged if you hit them the same distance or loose distance.  If you look at the lofts compared to the AP2s, they are a full club stronger.  For example, 27* is a 5 iron in the AP2s and a 6 iron in the TMs.  The lengths are the same way.  Essentially they are taking a 5 iron, putting a 6 on it, and then telling you how you can hit your 6 iron just as far as someone else's 5 iron.

I could be wrong, but doesn't cally do that too?.......

Yes. Cally sets their irons up a degree stronger as well. What you have to do is check the dimensions on each brands clubs. I was told this before I purchased my Titleists and I checked TM, Cally and Wilson Staff. Shafts longer and lofts stronger. You can always go to the brand charts online and do the comparison on your own, if seeing is believing. AP1s are a degree stronger that AP2s, so I had my AP2s set up with AP1 lofts.......

Keeping in mind, "longer" is heavily based on loft adjustments. A TM 5 iron is fully one iron less lofted than the AP1 - or the same loft as a 4 iron. At the end of the fitting, you need a set of clubs that match your swing and distance gaps. Having a 5 iron as long as a 4 iron may just mean you can't hit the 4 iron - just like you might not be able to hit a Titleist 3 iron. I was hesitant that the 914 irons would be better than the 912s I had, but my swing has changed over 3 years, and with a heavier shaft, my 914s exceed the 912s. We have more no upcharge choices to get to the right set.

Don, You do mean 712, and 714 irons don't you. And, BTW, I agree with you 110%. Good advise.

Whoops, correct - 712/714s.  Just added a 714 5-iron to reward working hard in the off season.  Been using the 27 degree Hybrid since I started 5 years ago.  Was fit last summer for the 85 g KK and all of the irons are doing what I want them to do and are gapped right to my 24H and 21F.  The 5I with the Pro-V1x is hitting and holding greens.  Having a lower loft for more distance to roll through the green won't help me score better.

Thank for the advice. I'm planning an iron fitting in a few weeks.  I do play 3H and 4H cally XHot2's.  I'll have to see how the new irons fit into the distance equation.

Go get fit for the Titleist irons, as many have said you won't be disappointed.  I don't know your game of course, however remember what club you hit from a certain yardage is relavent, doesn't matter what the number on the bottom of the club is its the score you write in the box on the scorecard!

I switched from TM to Titleist about 6 years ago and never looked back.  I started with my irons and eventually eliminated TM entirely from my bag and went Titleist throughout.  I always recommend fitting because the clubs will be built around you.  Also, check out demo days and/or fitting days in your area.  I would even find a pro shop near you that carries Titleist and see if they would allow you to play a round with their demo set.  Good luck with your decision!

I made the switch from TM Burner 2.0 to the AP1's just two month's ago, after getting fitted and playing the Trial set when I was in Florida. I'm 55 years old now, and even though the lofts are not the same, by me switching to graphite shafts I actually gained yards. The swing weight was matched for me, and I think I can swing the clubs faster. Take it from me, it's the best golf decision you'll aver make.

Thanks for the advice.  I'm planning a fitting soon and looking forward to it.  I do like my Burners but I dnot hit the 5I consistently.  I play 3H 4H Callys Xhot 2's.   I'll need to look at the distances.
