  1. Hi

I want to order a Titleist D2 driver but I need to cut down the shaft to 44 inches from the stock 45.   Which head weight should I get to maintain the D4 swing weight.

    thanks.

    Hi Derek,

It depends on what shaft, and what grip. Every 1/2" is about 2-3 swingweights depending on the shaft and the balance of the shaft.   If it is the D+70, with a standard grip - the heaviest swingweight would be D1 using the 14 gram weight.  If it is the Plus Blue or the Rogue, the heaviest will be C9 at 44" with a standard grip.  Our standard swingweight varies depending on what shaft you use - the Rogues and the Plus Blues are standard D2 swingweight at standard length and stock grip.

  3. Thanks Cathi.

One last question, when you choke up one inch on a club, do you get the same effective swingweight as cutting down the club 1 inch and gripping it on the end?

Hi Derek,  If you cut it down 1", you will effectively change the swingweight 5-6 swingweights assuming same grip.  If you choke down, theorectically (if you were to clamp down 1" on a swingweight machine), it would actually swingweight minimally lighter because there would be more weight on the other side of the fulcrum.  Whether you can perceive that difference is another matter.

  5. Thanks Cathi,

So, if I ordered a D2 with the Diamana 60 (regular flex) from Titleist cut down to 44 inches, and I specified the 14 gram head weight instead of the 9 gram,  I would recover some of the swing weight decrease, right?   I know the other variable is grip.   Does Titleist have a lightweight version of a midsize grip?   I usually use a Golf Pride Multicompound grip but I know that is on the heavy side.

    Thanks.
