  1. I asked a similar question on another part of the Discussion forum, but this may be the appropriate topic area for my question.

I have a set of 712 AP2 irons with Tru Temper Dynamic Gold shafts.

Can these irons be reshafted with Tru Temper XP95 shafts?

Will the XP95 shafts screw up the swing weight of the AP2 irons?

    Thanks.

The XP 95 should swingweight about 1swingweight lighter than standard DYG.

  3. Thanks, Cathi.

Has anyone out there put the XP95 shafts on AP2 irons?

I'd like to hear from you.

I haven't done it yet, but I am about to. I bought my AP2's last year, and the DG's have been great. Unfortunately, I developed a case of tennis elbow last year, and while I place most of the blame on hitting off mats, the heavier shaft certainly did not help. I had originally thought I would swap my shafts for DGSL's, but after hitting several shafts this morning, the XP95 was the clear winner. I was more concerned about feel than results, but the XP95 gave me both. Despite being roughly 30 grams lighter than the DG, it felt familiar when I swung the club. A couple of the other shafts I tried left me completely lost, hitting shanks or fat with no consistency. Unfortunately, I did not get to try the DGSL, but I was pleased enough with the XP95 that I am going that route. Thanks, Brian

I wound up selling my AP2's and buying the AP1's with the XP95 shafts in regular flex.

I probably had no business buying the AP2's in the first place as a 70 year old, 20-handicap golfer, but I wanted a heavier shaft with stiff flex to control my ball flight and direction.  I honestly felt like I benefited from the AP's over my prior set of irons.   But, the AP1's give me a higher trajectory for my slower club head speed, and that is the key benefit of the XP95 shafts.  I have managed to reduce my handicap by four strokes to a 16-handicap over the past four months.

Rich, you are a year older than I am and I really love my AP2s.  Took up this crazy game in 1984 and played on the weekends until I retired in 2011.  Tried all the brands and finally ended up with the XP95 STIFF AP2S.  I really enjoy mine.  My previous set was an older set of AP2 with ProjectX 5.5 stiff shafts.  I thought about the AP1s but my fitter found these to have better results. Glad that your results are improving.  Right now my game is crazy mixed up but it is between the ears.  Nothing to do with the equipment.  Cheers and good golfing.

  8. Hi Cathi. I have a set of 714 AP2's with the stock DG S300 shaft. I've hit the XP95 S300 on the 714 AP2 at my local range. I really like this shaft as it's more the weight of ZZ65's I had in my other set of png I20's. Sadly, my range does not have an XP105 S300 shaft to try out as a demo. Given the XP95 increases the swing weight by a point, would the XP105 increase it by, say, 2 points? Also, I've heard the weight on the XP95 S300 is around 101...would the XP105 S300 be around 106-108? Thanks Kevin

Hi Kevin,  If your pro has a fitting system, please have him contact us at Team Titleist and we will arrange to lend him an XP 105 S300 so that you can hit it.  The XP96 decreases the swingweight by 1 point and the XP105 decreases the swingweight by .5 point.

  10. Thanks Cathi. I'll inquire about them getting an XP105 to demo. So the swingweight differentials...are they increased/decreased relative to a stock AP2 with a DG S300 shaft. Just curious. Many thanks, Kevin
  11. If I am re-shafting my 2" shortened AP2 irons, should I replace with XP115 for the weight difference? I tried the XP95 shafts with my pro and loved them, but I now feel that I should get a heavier shaft to compensate for the shortened clubs. And also, are the XP95, XP105 and XP115 Stiff shafts the same stiffness, just heavier?

Good rule of thumb is ,  heavy shaft- lighter head weight  and lighter shaft- heavier head weight.   This is to achieve the same swing weight. When they are reshafted to XP- 95's , you can increase or add a  tip weight , or just add some lead tape do achieve the desired swing weight.

I would try them lighter swing weight first then if you are not happy add lead tape until they feel and perform for you. Lead tape is easy to change and you can put it where ever on the head you like. . Tip weights require pulling the heads and put the weight in the hosel.

  14. The hossel on the 8.9.pw is longer than the 7,6,5 etc is the shaft depth longer ?
