i in the past being a total Titleist player have read a lot about fitting I have been fitted for wedges a combo set of irons but I would like some of the guys that voice their opinions to help me here I'm 70'hit the driver an honest 190'on a good day. I know I'm not to to hit it much more even that I'm fairly flexible .but have any of you guys tried 12 degree drivers(Titleist) I using a soft r flex or senior flex as some company's call  I would just like some feed back from guys that play not so much the suggestion of a fitter but i do have the rite wedges and combo irons that were fitt.bthanks in any case

I too am a Sr and will be hitting 69 on Sept 10.  I play a 10.25 driver and a 14.25 fairway, but my distance is a bit longer.  I always see my fitter when getting new clubs.  I want to ensure that I have the right loft and by all means the right shaft.  I am still playing stiff shafts and my irons are AP2S xp95 stiffs 5-PW.  I took up the game late in life and did not start playing until around 1984.  I can hit my fairway about 15 yards short of my driver.  Might want to test drive one of the Titleist fairways in a 13.5 or 15 degree loft.  I play a 913F but the new 915Fs are worth looking at.  A good fitter can make a difference.

Thank you I will and yes it never occurred to me to try the fairway  which I will with a fitter thanks you sir

  4. harry h,When I was being fitted for my driver, the rep had me hit a few shots with a 12 degree and said I didn't need the extra height. These days the club manufactures are saying the more height will keep the ball in the air longer, therefore you get more distance. My advice to you is go to a demo-day and try a 12 degree head with a senior and a regular flex shafts. I personally like the Diamana brand. Happy hunting and keep us updated. steve b

harryh:  I got fitted for a 12 degree driver with a stiff shaft when I returned from a posting abroad 15 years ago.  While I liked the accuracy and got acceptable distance, I felt as if I was giving away too much to everyone else I was playing, so I switched out of that driver.  I am now 70.  My current driver, for which I was fit, is a 9.5 with a stiff shaft.  I average between 220 and 230 with it, with occasional days reaching out to 240+ average.  As steve b and others have said, the best way to determine the proper driver is to see a reputable, qualified club fitter and check out your options.  I've decided I will will never again rely on off the rack clubs, but will always go through a fitting before buying anything.

If your going to get fitted try the 50 gram stiff Diamana.  If your current drives have a tail (late fade) then your shaft isn't stiff enough.  Extra stiffness will give you more distance. Played w a guy today in his 60's that had a tail on his drive(Reg Shaft). I let him hit mine and further and straighter.  Might I also recommend the Pro-V1X. Even though your swing speed may not be what it once was the X has a better roll out than The 1.  Good luck!

Harry I'm almost 67 and have a 12 degree 915 with the Rogue shaft. I went to a fitter with TracMan and before purchase reviewed my TrackMan stats showing various heads and shafts with my pro who has been trying his best to get me to hit more on the upswing. The 12 degree has improved my loft and on my best drives I can get out to 250 when I do catch it on the upswing, but when I hit lower trajectory I'll get about 220-230. After I got the 915 I tested all of the Titleist balls and found that the NXT Tour gave me more of the higher loft, longer drives than the others, I'm happy with the combination.
