Aside from the glossy vs. matt black finishes, is there a noticeable difference in the performance characteristics between the Diamana 'ahina 72 shaft from a 910D2 Driver compared to the Diamana D+ 72 x5CT shaft from a 913D2 Driver?

I don't have any experience with the white boards but I have changed over from the old 913 blue boards top the new ones. They are much better imo. Better feel all the way around

Wish I could help you, I changed over to the Aldila Rogue Black 70 for my driver based on the recommendation of my fitter.  Love the results.  Had a 910D3 and went to a 915D2.

I see that you guys have been discussing spin.  When my fitter looked at my numbers for my 915D2 9.5 with the combination of 10.25 loft and the Black 70 shaft, my spin rate ran 2000-2500.  Of course my club head speed is low at 93 mph.  At that point we decided that was the right combination.  Have to consider that I am a mere 69 and only hit the ball around 250 yards in the fairway and most of the time in the middle.  I am pretty happy with the D2 over the D3 head.  I hope that you get the good results in your choice.  My fitter made the difference for me.

I have both of those drivers in the d3 model with X shafts. I seem to launch the 910 a bit lower and hotter than the 913. I would guess that the 910 'ahina is a bit stiffer in the tip than the 913 Diamana shaft. I game the 913 as it feels easier to hit for me and I break out the 910 on windy days when I want a lower launch

The Ahina 72 is slightly stiffer throughout the shaft than the Plus White 72 in the 913.   You can swap the shafts if you want to use the 910 Ahina 72 driver shaft in your 913 driver

  7. Cathi - I have the Titleist 910D2 driver -- 10.5 loft -- Diamana Ilima 61 Stiff flex (Mid-HI) shaft.  My SS is 98-100.  I like the fact that i can hit a lot of fairways, however, the spin rate is in the range of 3500.  The launch monitor indicates that i can gain about 15 to 20 yards with less spin rate.

I am a 5 handicap.  Given that i like my current shaft, but want a new driver with less spin rate, and slightly lower trajectory, what shafts should i be looking at with a new driver?  And what loft for my new driver?

Hi Wayne, In general, the biggest contributor to spin is loft. so you will want to try out a 915 9.5 head, probably the D2, but don't count out the D3 head - at least try it as it has less spin. One of the differences besides size is that it is not as easy to draw as the D2.  Both heads can be adjusted for a higher loft.   As far as shafts, your shaft will work in the 915 head so that can be your backup.  Try some of the new ones - the Diamana M+ is softer and will spin more than your current Ilima, and the Diamana S+60, is a bit stiffer so you may have to try several different shafts to find the one that produces the best launch and spin.  I would recommend working with a good clubfitter in your area.  When you set up the fitting appointment, ask what shafts they have available and if they need a couple more, they can contact us and if we have the shafts on hand, we can send them for the fitting.

  9. Cathi -

Thanks.  Given that my goal is a lower spin rate, I want to lower the trajectory, but not a huge amount.  A few more questions:

Apparently, my current shaft, the Daimana Ilima 61 stiff shaft, that came with the Titleist 910D2 (10.5 loft) has a torque of 4.5 with a mid-high launch. Is that correct?

Second, it does appear, as you say, that the S+60 and the M+ are good start points.

It appears that the new Diamana S+ Blue 60 that comes with the 915D3 has a 4.4 torque with mid launch.  So, it appears that the new S+ 60 will have a lower launch -- will there be much difference in trajectory?

It appears that the new Diamana M+ Red 50 that comes with the 915D2 has a weight of 52 and a torque of 5.6 with a higher launch -- it appears that I may be able to change from my existing 10.5 loft to a 9.0 or 9.5 loft with the M+ and get a lower spin and lower trajectory.  Is that correct.  I know that some of this is hypothetical.

I will definitely try to demo the two shafts, but as you know, it is not always easy to find them in the pro's inventory.

    Mitsubishi Diamana S+ Blue 60 915D2 / 915D3 R, S 60, 61 5.3°, 4.4° Mid
    Mitsubishi Diamana M+ Red 50 915D2 A, R, S 49, 51, 52 6.8°, 6.3°, 5.6° High

    Thanks,

Hi Wayne,  The M+50 is a bit softer than the I'lima and you may find yourself hitting it too high with too much spin.  You won't know until you hit it outside.  We would recommend getting together with a good fitter and looking at the launch and spin.  If you do go to a lower loft, try to make the same swing that you make with your current driver so that you can really see what changes can be made.

Wayne: in parallel to trying the new clubs/shafts that Cathi recommends you might want to simply change the setting on your current driver to take the loft down from 10.5 to 9.75. That will take your spin and trajectory down with a simple turn of the wrench.
  12. Thanks Kevin, but there is no adjustment possible on the "910" D2 -- otherwise I would have because I like the shaft.
