    Dear Team Titleist,

I'm about to place an pre-order for the new 716 MB. My current 712 MB shaft length are +0.5" longer than stock length.

So if I want it with shaft TT DG S400 (hard step twice), but I'm still uncertain how to order it.

    - Should I state the shaft final length I want? (i.e. 5-iron length 38.5")

    or

    - Should I state that the shaft needs to be lengthen by 1" or 2"?

    Thank you,

    Anto Kalambay

Hi Anto,  We are unable to hard step the short irons in your set because we use a standard 37" shaft for the P and 9 and True Temper does not offer a shorter shaft.  We can hard step the 8 iron one time and the 3-7 iron twice.  As far as length, you would list final length of the club.

Cathi, thank you for the info.

I almost forgot, I also planning to soft step twice my SW and LW since both clubs play similarly (a lot of partial shot and backswing), I think.

What shafts should I install on both clubs? 8-iron? 9 iron?

    Thank you,

    Kalambay.

You might want to talk with your club fitter regarding the shaft if you are thinking of using a different shaft than the S400 through out your set.  He/she would be the best place to start.

    Cathi,

It's the same TT DG S400 shafts for my SW and LW. I'm not planning to use different shafts for my irons set and wedges.

It's just after I read Bob Vokey comment that you might need a softer flex shaft for wedges. So I'm beginning to think that it's true for shot inside 90 yards I rarely hit it with full swing but it's a partial backswing most of the time. SInce it's a partial backswing the speed decreases that's why you need a softer flex shaft to compensate. So you can hit it higher and increase backspin.

    Thank you,

    Kalambay.

Bob feels that on partial shots you can get more feel by going with a softer flex, which is why the S200 is the stock shaft for his wedges because S300 are the standard shaft in many of our irons.  If you are not going to use the wedges for full shots, using an S400 soft stepped once (to keep the weight), would be fine.

    Cathi,

I've just learn that for 716 MB other than the usual TT DG there is a new shaft option: TT DG AMT. Is it available with the S400 as well?

If I want to the loft a bit stronger and the lie angle a bit flat:

    - should I state the final loft and lie angle

    or

    - should I state the loft needs to be bend 1 degree stronger and the lie angle needs to be bend 1 degree flatten

    Thank you,

    Kalambay.

    Hi there,

This is interesting. I'm just curious as to why you would hard step your set two times with TT S400s and not go to the X100 shafts?

I have all of the replies in this thread and you have a very specific set of clubs. It would seem that if you went to an authorized fitter, they should be able to help you get the correct set for you with hard stepping and soft stepping (your wedges).

    Thanks,

    Sam

    Samuel,

I did try soft step once the TT DG X100, as the matter a fact that is my current irons set setup. The reason I want to hard step twice TT DG S400 setup now because I want to compare both shafts on accuracy, distance, feel. I know I'm in between the S400 and X100, so I try the soft step X100 first and hard step twice S400 later.

As for wedges (SW and LW only, PW and GW is the same setup with irons set) I feel the X100 still a bit stiff on partial shot (inside 90 yards), so I want to install a more softer flex on both wedges.

Yes, I went to Titleist AFD session and get fit for the full set.

I thought most X100 players use the S400 in their wedges for the softer feel and extra weight.

Just checking the update custom option list, W O W !!!!!

The new shafts offering are clearly shown why Titleist is the leader in customize clubs comparing to other brand.

Titleist, you will make a killing sales with this next year ! ! !

True Matt. Since I use the same shaft for both irons and wedges, I just have to soft step the shaft to get that softer feel.
