Almost giving up on the newly purchased 712 CB, I went to a club fitter for an opinion. I brought the 712 CB together with the irons I previously used, the FG 62. I told the fitter I was striking the ball well with the FG 62 but not with 712 CB.

After checking, the fitter found out that the 712 CB was 2 degree upright. This explains why I was skulling and at times pulling the ball left. Got it fixed. Lo and behold. I found the sweet spot again and again. Sharing this to team titleist.

Not being able to find sweet spot could be due to many reasons. Getting the lie angle fixed is eliminating one. Cheers !

  2. Rizal, congrats on figuring it out!

Lie angles are a big factor as you discovered!

    Good Luck in the future...

True story!  Everyone should have their lofts and lies checked, at least once a year!

Good that you got it figured out and note that no two companies have the same standard lie angles. Almost all of them are different.  Knowing what yours should be along with shaft length is a crucial fitting element.  If you go with a longer shaft, a flatter lie angle is required and conversely a shorter shaft means a more upright lie angle based on the club you have fitted now for example.  For me, 62* 5 iron is dead on and the rest of my irons matched to that accordingly.

    Nice thread OP!

Lie angles and lofts should be checked quite often. Especially if you're playing a forged club. I work part time at a range/simulator/pro shop so I get access to the loft/lie bender and it amazes me how much a club can adjust from normal use!

I had my AP2's checked today. Loft was spot on throughout the set.  We did find my 8-PW needed to be flattened 1 degree and we moved my wedges 2 degrees flat. Worth the time and effort.

If you play a lot, you might want to have them checked periodically. Lie and loft.

Dumb question, but where would be the best place to have them checked?  I just stepped up to my first forged set of clubs and will no doubt want to keep up with this.  Located in Houston BTW

i play practice/play five days a week. i work at a golf shop in northern ca and play for a small college up here. i find that my lies and lofts get changed pretty easily on my MB's and AP2's. i used to check them every three months. lately i have been checking them every three weeks or so to find that they can move as much as 1.5 degrees depending on the club. can not stress how important it is to get them checked.
