How do I polish AP1 irons?

    1) Should I put a polish solution on them before I polish them?  If so, what do you recommend? a)car wax b) silver polish c) auto wheel polish, etc...

    2) what type of polish equipment do you recommend?  a) hand held grinder with polish wheel? b) table top grinder with polish wheel? c) hand buff

    3) if you recommend a polish wheel or buffer what type do you recommend.

    thank you

I have never polished any irons. I simply clean them with water and a washcloth or towel and they look good as new. Personally, I would not consider a project such as that. Just an opinion.

I have always used regular car wax/polish, and old t-shirts to hand buff.  Wouldn't use anything mechanical.

I've not owned the AP1 irons myself, is the finish chrome ?

One of the best polishes around for cleaning chrome and other metal finishes is Autosol.

I'm not sure what part of the world your from, here is a link below for Amazon in the UK where you can buy it

I would not recommend polishing your irons mechanically.

I use regular car wax/polish, and an old t-shirt to buff them with.  Makes them so much easier to clean on the course, too.

Can you tell me the make and model of the polish wheel you used?

Was it installed on a bench grinder or hand held polisher?

Wont a wax or polish have an effect on spin ( less ) ?

I don't plan on polishing the faces.

I'd stick to something like Autosol and use a microfibre cloth, the problem with buffing wheels is they are aggressive and they'll remove too much of the chrome finish. Yes it will look shiney but the chrome layer will have gotten a lot thinner, to remove a lot of deeper scratches it has to remove the chrome finish down to the level of the deep scratches to make them hardly noticeable.

Autosol is what car enthisiasts and owners of prestige motors use to highly polish their chrome and other metalwork to show off their cars, use one microfibre cloth to apply the cream and to work it in then a clean cloth to clean and polish.

    Good luck

Autosole sound like it would be a good solution for me.

I will check a couple local auto parts shops..

    Thanks

I used to own Bertha 2004 irons. That was when I started golfing. Washing and polishing them generally once a week. It took me sometime to realize they were not for display. These days, as long as the club heads are free from dirt (especially the grooves), they are fine. I still wash the grips with mild dish washing liquid/paste about once a fortnight. Also got the gloves dipped with hand soap before rinsing them every one or two rounds.

Hi Pat, I have never really polished irons before, just cleaned them with water and removed all the mud out of the groves and I also have ap1's, had them for a year now and they stay pretty shiny with just some scrubbing after each round. If your trying to keep them shinier for longer, I recommend getting some head covers, play well-Joe P

I don't polish my clubs, but I make sure to wipe them off with a wet towel after every shot. I am getting a new set of AP2's, but the set I have now I have been using for seven years and they look almost brand new.
