I am looking at changing the shafts on my AP2s and have a couple questions.  I have tried the Project X 6.0 (S+) and the TT DG Tour S400 and liked them both equally.  Both shafts had a much better ball-flight than the TT DG S300 that I have now.

I have my irons cut 1" short.  What is the correct way to measure the assembled clubs so I don't cut too much or too little?

Also, my buddy has a set of Project X 5.5 (S) shafts that he will give me.  I know the shafts are meant to be club-specific, but if I were to put a 4 iron shaft into a 5 iron and butt cut it to the correct length, would that make the 5.5 play like a 6.0?  If I left them as-is and played them at 5.5, would I even notice much difference?  Also, would shortening them by 1" from standard for my proper play length impact the flex rating?

Thanks in advance for all the insight!

From personal experience, I wouldn't play around with the length of the shafts without professional insight and assistance. When you cut down a club after they have already come standard. you are throwing off the weighting as well as the flex point of the shaft. think of it this way: say you have a teeter-totter and you cut off a foot on one side. you are going to have to change where the fulcrum is located on the plank to make it so the teeter-totter is properly balanced. This is what will happen to the shafts in your clubs. I recommend that you call into Titleist and have the clubs custom ordered with the specific shafts that you want ( I always thought KBS-Tour was the best ball-flight wise) and have them tailor them to your needs. This will save you a lot tinkering and future ball-flight problems with your irons.
