I currently play Titleist 913D2 with a Diamana Blue 62 regular flex. My ball speed on launch monitor is 88 with spin rate around 3000-3600 range. My distance is anywhere from 200-220. Ball flight is mid flight. I want another 10-20 yards. Will upgrading to 915D2 with a different shaft help me? Recommendations please?

I recently went through a club fitting process and although I use another manufactures driver, I had similar stats to yours. I traded in my old driver that was a 10.5 degree regular flex to a 12 degree soft regular flex and I have gained around 10 - 15 yards in the real world. I am hoping for even more when our fairways dry out and become firm this summer. My new driver also is designed for a right to left bias on ball flight and to produce less spin. It is doing a good job.

Get your spin rate down to 2500. Go see a good club fitter with launch monitor etc. He'll get you into the right shaft and proper club setup. Moving from 913 to a 915 won't do much more than enrich the Titleist folks. I play the 913 D2 and with a better shaft and changes to my club setup, I picked up @ 20 yards. But I went to a quality club fitter.

The only way to really know is set up a fitting with a qualified Titleist fitter and see what the results are. You would probably start with your current drivers to get the numbers and then the fitter could select the 915 head/shaft combo that may work the best for you based on those numbers. By going through the fitting, you may find out that rather than getting a new driver, all you need is a tweak of your current one or maybe a different shaft.

I agree with Barry B. Git fit for the correct shaft.

I went to a lightweight shaft Mitsubishi Bassara X53 last year when I was very ill when my SS had dropped from 102-105 to 93-95 and my spin rates were 2600-2800 or so with the new shaft and I got nice hit and roll

Get fit though at a GOOD Titleist PRO shop....

I just got fitted for a Driver and got it home on my LM and it is giving worse nos then in my fitting and vs my other 2 Drivers.. so go to a top notch place and tell them what you want to achieve

Like everyone stated, get fit. The fitter will determine the best setup of shaft and clubhead to maximize your distance. Don't try to figure this out on your own by reading articles on the Internet or personal recommendations.

I agree with everyone as far as seeing a fitter. What about your swing, and club head speed? Are you losing power recently? I know for me, I have two modes. And the bad one costs me 30-40 yards distance with a driver.

You really need to see true PGA Professional to help you with your fitting. Your spin rate at 3600 suggest that you hit down at the ball (increasing spin). To reduce spin you may need to make come slight changes, teeing a little higher and contact with the ball more on the upswing to increase launch & reduce spin. Your optimal launch conditions may be around 15* launch & 2000 spin @ 88 mph. I don't know of any head / shaft combination that would reduce a players spin by 1600 rpm without making some swing changes.

Nothing new here - get fit. Unless you do better with a different loft head, most of your improvement will come trying the shafts. I'm about the same speed and replaced the shaft with one that works better for me - (evo)Speeder 569. It wasn't cheap, but was an upcharge on the 915 as well. The S+ wasn't getting quite enough launch and the M+ was spinning too high. Talk to your fitter and if need be, the fitter can borrow other shafts from Titleist that may work better. So I still have the 913. Stretching and strengthening core muscles for golf is also never over-rated.

First of all, upgrade to the new 915 metals. You'll be amazed at the distance improvement immediately! The new test balls are proving even more yardage. 10-15 yards longer in my short experience. Get fit at TPI and dial in all aspects of your game. Stretch, work out and get in the best physical shape. Eat properly. Get more sleep and have a positive outlook and focus on where you want to be. Not where you are. You'll get more than you ever expected. Improvement happens in small, incremental, baby steps. But over a long period of time, discipline and making success and improvement a habit, it will happen. Guaranteed! I'm living proof. Good luck!

Shaft is the key, sometimes your swing can change without much notice to your game but the shaft will no longer work for you. I went from a Project X 6.0 Stiff low/mid to a Red Diamana 5.5 stiff low/mid on my Titleist 910 D2 and it has got me a few more yards but it also tighten up my pattern. As said many times before go to a GOOD fitter and they will get you where you need to be. Good luck Pete

Try adding loft first. Crank up the loft as much as you can with the SureFit adjustment (A3/B3/A4/B4).

Also, move the ball forward a bit, tee it up a little higher, and focus on making contact on the UPswing, not at the bottom of your arc.

I'm guessing you meant your swing speed was 88. If your ball speed was 88, you would hit about 140. Ball speed is about 1.4-1.5 times swing speed. So your ball speed would be 88*1.45 = 132. Right?

Three things have worked for me (Swing speed 85).

    1) The lighter Diamana or Bassara Red (regular) shafts are very good and are built for an 88 mph swing speed. Might even try to go up with the loft from 10.5 to 12. Give it a try with the changeable hosel. If you have a different shaft, you can even buy an interchangeable shaft and put it in your driver head.

    2) Swing up on the driver. Trackman says you can get up to 30 extra yards by changing your angle of attack to +5 degrees. Gets the ball up and takes the spin off. Only if you swing 110+ can you swing slightly down (-1 degree) on the driver.

    3) I still find the ProvX goes farther than any other ball. I do extensive field tests (play 2 balls of many different brands on the course), and almost always the ProvX goes farthest for me. Always thought the harder balls would go farther, but they don't. So get the high spin short game, and the longer tee shot in one ball.

I am in the same dilemma. Because of recent surgeries, my clubhead speed has been reduced dramatically. I am going to switch to a soft-regular shaft. and a low spin ball. Hope it works. Good luck to you also.
