After about two and a half years of use I decided to do a refinish job on my AP1's. I always have kept head covers on them but they still get scratched up. So I took some time and put a new satin finish on the except for the polished insert in the cavity, gives them a touch of class, I really like the way they turned out!

They look really nice. What was the process you used?

It's not that difficult if you have the right things. First clean the clubs, then inspect if there are any deep scratches if so you will need a 240 grit sandpaper. Or not I use a 320 and a 400 grit. Start with the 320 with light strokes until most of the scratches disappear and then go over that with the 320. After sanding clean with a damp cloth, then this is where the satin finish will come in, I use a scotchbrite pad to go over where it was sanded, however to get the finish you must sand and apply the scotchbrite pad in only one direction back and forth until you get the results you want. Sounds complicated but it's an easy process. I work in a machine shop so I have access to everything I need. If I get the 716 I will do the same finish, because they are not chrome, just polished, I would like to see Titleist use a hydropearl coating on the AP1.

No buffing machine or compound. All done by hand. Simple to do.

    Nice work.
They are great clubs and you just bought yourself a couple of extra years of service. Hit 'em good!

I want to correct something I said in the process after using the 320 go over it with the 400 and then go over that with the scotchbrite to acquire the satin brushed finish. You can get all needed to do it at your local building supply store.

I wish you could show the bottom of the club. That is where most of my scratches are on the club.

I will take a pic and post it asap (tonight) for you to see. If the scratchs on the bottom are deep I'm afraid to remove any material other than what I can get out with sandpaper, due to it changing the swing weight of the club, however I have done it with an air hand grinder at work on a wedge or two. It also turned out great.

Gabriel here is a picture of the bottom of my 8 iron, I'm not too concerned about the bottom of the club due to the fact that it is always on the ground. I keep head covers on my irons also so they don't chatter against each other in the bag. That helps a lot to keep them looking good.

Joel I would think that it would be a process to do what you are wanting to do. The AP2 are chrome plated and it's very hard. If they were mine I would try a soda blast on it to start with and see if it would remove the ball marks and then if so I would polish the chrome back out. It's just according to how much wear the chrome has. Usually when refinishing chrome back it has to be stripped and replaced. Just my take. Someone my chime in with some thoughts.
  14. Thanks Greg!
  15. Great job Greg Is anyone aware of a DIY process for refinishing AP2s with browned faces? Mine aren't there yet but might be by the end of the year. I use iron covers so there's no club chatter, just wear on the faces.

NICE!!! Thanks for the tips! I might have to start doing this every winter!
  17. I love the look! My AP1s have taken on many battle scars because of one course we play on our amateur tour, rocky areas that they won't mark under repair. I'm gonna do mine!
