So I went and was fitted for the new 917 driver. I had a 915 with at stiff shaft and always had a baby draw. Now they fit me with a regular flex and 8 grams of weight in the head at a neutral setting. I seem to be cutting/slicing the ball. When I was fitted my dispersion rate was pretty good on launch monitor. But on the course, the shaft just seems too flimsy. I don't have a fast club head speed at all 90 to 93 mph. Any thoughts???? Just a fyi i was fit at a GG because I live too far away to go to a Titleist Thursday plus I work.

  2. Go back to GG and try out a stiffer shaft?
  3. I had a similar experience when I went to get fitted. Went from a stiff shaft in a Taylor Made to a regular in Titelist 917. Hit it great at fitting but when I went to course I had a slight fade. Adjusted the SureFit Hosel to go up in loft and slight closed face and it's been great ever since.

If the shaft is too flimsy it should draw or hook not slice, maybe the weight is heavy toward the toe and it keeps the club head from turning over.

Out of curiosity - by chance did the GG have the driver you purchased on the rack? The very last time they will fit me for anything, they happened to have the club I "needed" (fitted to) on the rack. That was a 9.5 with the S in stiff. The 10.5 S in R flex was too wide for dispersion. I now have a 917 in 12 with M+ and stiff. Boxes trend to selling inventory and I don't fit the mold. I know Titleist has to support those outlets, but they do price protect pro shops, For the same money, I found places I can trust.

They had a good selection of drivers but I could tell he didnt know what he was talking about because I had to tell him "Hey my launch angle is too high or look at how high my ball spin numbers are" I'm no expert but 13 to 15 degrees launch and and for me a spin rate of 2100 to 2300 is acceptable.

If you still have your 915 driver swap the shaft out with the 917 shaft. That is what I did with my 915 shaft.

I sold the 915, I should have waited, Im just not Happy with performance and I should probably give it more time to get used too.

I go back and get refitted. and find out what is going on.
Bring your 915 with you and checkout your trackman data, and compare the 915 to the 917.
I would think about getting a second fitting elsewhere.
    For comparison.

If the shaft has too much flex, it will be difficult to control ball flight. So, I'd go with a stiff shaft.

Agree this sounds like a swing issue not a driver issue.

    Do you take lessons?

Doesn't take much of a swing path change to go from one to the other. Then again, as I'm being fit, I'm watching closely too. Keep in mind the "middle of the road" area where you may technically be right between regular and stiff. That is a small window, and a judgement call on the fitters part.

One of the reasons I try to always get fitted for a club on the driving range. I was hitting mine to the left on the course and took it back to my Titleist fitter and he made a couple of adjustments with the weights, lofts and setting and all is well. I always go to a Titleist certified fitter and have my clubs ordered directly from Titleist either thru a proshop or a golf specialty shop.

Can never get it right at the big box stores. Last few times I have went to titleist Thursdays, outdoors with a launch monitor only way to go. My fittings are so much better than they were before.
