    Hey,

This is for Cathi or Nick.  I recently purchased a 910 FD as a custom order through the custom department with an Aldila VS Proto 80 "X" shaft.  I am really hitting it very well, but have a spare Aldila NV Protopype 80 "X" shaft that I would like to install in this 3 wood.  I don't want to mess with the VS Proto and have it taken out of that adapter, so what I am looking to to is order a shaft through Titleist (so I can get a spare shaft adapter) and have a local club repairman in Atlanta (where I live) take out the shaft I ordered from Titleist and install the Aldila NV Protopype shaft.  I am aware that this would void the warranty for that adpater, but feel very confident that this club repairman will do a great job as he is very familiar with the new Titleist hosel system and shaft adapter.

My question is, could I order a Dynamic Gold X100 shaft already installed into the adapter and would that adapter allow him to pull out the X100 and install the NV Protopype?  My concern is that Titleist has two different shaft adapters (one to fit steel shafts of a larger tip diameter (.355) and one for graphite shafts (.335).  I maybe incorrect on my assumption and all shafts may fit into the same adapter.  Could you let me know if this setup would be possible.  It would be cheaper for me just to order the X100 as steel is less expensive than graphite.

    Thanks a bunch!

All the adapters for the fairways and drivers are .335" That being said the least expensive shafts to order as shafts and SFT tips only are the stock graphite shafts for the woods. Also keep in mind when you order shafts only you get your choice of 1 SFT weight with each shaft ordered. Go ahead and do it, I did with a hybrid shaft, ordered one and then pulled it and installed a DG X100 SL shaft.

Titleist needs to address this problem, as many users will be having the same issue. They should sell the adapters, and I'd like to see somebody set up a shaft swap web site. Some copies of the adapter have started showing up on E bay, and who knows about the quality of those, for a price of about $80! Titliest should remain in control of thier quality image, not some shop in China.

Meanwhile, I have two extra shafts made for my 910 fairway woods (Diamana Ali'i R, 65 grams) by the titliest tour van. Just about to list them for sale, as I liked the original 75 gram shaft better.

    Hi Mike -

We understand your concern with the SureFit Tour Hosel.  You should be very cautious of any aftermarket hosel being sold for the 910 products.  These are not distributed from Titleist.  In order to ensure the quality and optimal performance for Titelist products we are only providing SureFit Tour Hosels when installed directly from our facility.  There are no plans to offer the SureFit Tour Hosel for individual sale but we understand this policy may cause an inconvenience to some customers.  We do offer an industry leading shaft matrix to help our customers get their desired shafts for their 910 product.

If you have any further concerns about your Titleist products please contact us directly at any time.

  5. Well I can tell team titleist that while this may insure quality it is also costing them sales. I have a swing speed of 120+ and have searched high and low to get a driver and shaft combo to lower my ball spin and flatten out my flight. The problem is every shaft I need comes with a major upgrade and costs $500 plus. I recently found someone who has a oban prototype shaft and gave a me a reasonable price for it. Now instead of getting the d3 i want and putting that shaft into it, I am left with my only option being the r11(I am not going to buy a new d3 and remove the adapter and risk messing up the oban). I know of 5 other people I have played with in the past 6 months who have passed on the d2 or d3 for the r11 because of these same reasons. I get the reasoning but it is silly. Just make replacement product. It's the same with your adjustment system and the screws. So you can't trust a normal person to adjust a club without messing up the screws so you recomend a PGA professional do all the adjustments. The price of golf equipment is getting outragous and to think I can find a shaft that fits me perfectly but can't upgrade it into a new titleist driver is silly. For this reason, I can personally say I will not purchase any titleist products until it gets resolved. You have the best equipment by far yet lack the foresight to see how this continous cost on the consumer to upgrade into your equipment will hurt in the long run. Sadly for that, TM deserves my business and I am left with inferior equipment.

In talking to a Titleist executive, I was told that they made a business decision to not sell the adapters/sleeves.  Titleist needs to understand that their business to make us, the customers, enjoy our golf more.  If trying new shafts is part of that enjoyment and if Titleist won't supply our needs, we need to vote with our feet and switch to others, who have wised up and begun selling the adapters.  Simple Econ 101.

Thank you Titleist for holding the line and helping to insure the integrity of your fitting products.  That is such a rare and tremendous thing in the market place today as opposed to the way other companies are running their business.

PS - through their library program Titleist offers an almost unlimited variety of shafts that they will ship to their fitting accounts to use free of charge and then return them.  Find a good fitter in your area and tell him the shaft (s)you want to try. Then set up a fitting session where he will have all of their heads and the shaft you want.  The fitter should have a launch monitor and Pro V1 balls to use during the fitting.  What more could you ask for?
Much better than settling for something of far less quality!

As a master clubmaker who can see things from both sides of this issue, it's sad to listen to customers whine like this! Titleist tests hundreds of shafts with their products. Some don't make the cut because of performance issues, some for other reasons. Does Titleist need to hold your hand and back you up on every experiment? Switching adaptors is far easier than a traditional head reshaft. Buy, swap or whatever to get an authentic shaft with an adaptor, have it pulled, and install it onto the shaft you want to try or feel may work for you. Do you think every Tour pro goes to Titleist with their hat out seeking permission to try a shaft? No. They just try it and accept the risk. If it doesn't work, back to the drawing board. Maybe the wallet too because most pros pay for equipment like we do.  If you know Titleist makes a superior head (that's my opinion), then why would you compromise that, and your brand loyalty, over a tiny thing like a shaft adaptor? Letting negative emotions like fear dictate your decisions will hold you back not only in golf but also in life.

       Ken,

I appreciate your point of view, but need to play a little "Devil's Advocate." How else can people get a company's attention aside from "whining?" If you simply don't purchase a product without any sort of feedback as to why, how will the company know what was went wrong? How can they fix it?

Not selling the adapter is ridiculous. If I were a master club builder, I'd be whining- Titleist is stealing business from you! I'm in the "I have a shaft and want a hosel" boat. I'd prefer to use my local fitter. I like him and trust him. He does great work! It's much more convenient and budget friendly for me to go about this thing through a local builder than Titleist. With them I pay more and wait longer. What if they only sold the adapters to their local dealers/club makers? You would have made some money on people who come to your shop wanting a genuine SFT adapter for the shaft they ALREADY own. Most likely the same customer would've had you assemble the club for them too. Now Titleist robbed you twice! Do you sell shafts at your shop? Well guess what? Titleist gotcha again! I would also be offended that Titleist doesn't trust you, a "master club builder," to do something you've done for years-  glue a shaft into a hosel correctly. This isn't about "quality control," and if it is, Titleist needs to rethink this marketing strategy.

I hope Titleist pays mind to us- their VERY loyal customers. We should NOT just "suck it up." We already spend THOUSANDS individually (MILLIONS collectively) on their products every year- $48 for a box of Pro V's for God's sake! So why snub us further? Their competitors have already figured it out and their customers love them for it.

P.S.  Tour pros DO get to try WHATEVER the want... FOR FREE. They don't spend all their money on golf equipment.  Heck, they even hit Pro V's as range balls- their choice of V1 or V1X! All the companies have tour vans at EVERY event. Pros get to try WHATEVER they want (from whomever they want) on the range and switch out until they find what they like. If the van doesn't have it, they'll find a way to get it- and fast!  And  they don't pay for it! It's usually it's the opposite- sign a contract and the company PAYS them to game their stuff. I'm sure Titleist, one of the biggest companies in golf equipment, is no different.

    Hi Jason -

Yes, you can order the dynamic gold x100 with the SureFit Tour Hosel installed.  The driver and fairway are the same tip size at .335 parallel.  Ordering the stock shaft (Titleist Ahina, Kaili, ilima, RIP and Project X) is the least expensive 'shaft only' option available.

    Hope this helps...

  12. My question is if  the adapters are left/right hand specific? I am a left handed golfer and was looking at trying a shaft from a right handed club. Can I do this?

    Thank you

There is one orientation to the adaptors. That said, the adjustment tables are essentially mirror images.  You'll need to use the left hand table to adjust the settings.  The tables are included with the tool and on Titleist web site under clubs.

  14. Thanks, that helps. I can use any shaft as long as I set it up using my left hand chart.
