  1. Hi, I'm looking for completing my set on the long end. Currently I play a 910D2 9.5 at setting D1 so basically it plays as 8.75 degrees. I play it with Aldila RIP 60grams R flex and love the set up. In my irons I just switched to Cally x-forged with Nippon 950 shafts in stiff flex. My current set up for woods and hybrids do no longer fit properly in between this. So I'm looking for replacement. Very happy with the titleist products and looking for wood and hybrids to complete the set.

What I really like in a shaft, lightweight and solid feeling. My swing-speed on irons went up significantly (from 76 with old 6 iron to 85 with Nippon 950 in stiff) from moving to lower weight shafts. Although lightweight, the shafts in driver and iron still feel very solid and the same goes for my driver. I do not know my driver SS.

    But distances:

    Driver: 250-260 yards

    4 iron: 175-180 yards

    5 iron: 165 yards

and going down to PW in steps of approx 12 yards.

I have a tendency to hit high shots. With my driver at 8.75 deg I can still hit it quite high but ball flight still is good to me.

Now I'm looking for wood and hybrids. My first thought was to go with a 3wood and approx 19" hybrid. Also I'm contemplating to replace my 4-iron with a hybrid (24"). Any suggestions on set up and even more important what kind of shaft would be recommended? I'm looking to go with stock shafts where possible as I have to watch budget a bit as well :)

Thanks for any help / suggestions

Could probably get a 15* fairway and set it up @16.5 and 19* fairway or hybrid and set it up 20.5,    I have a 910F 19* set at B3, 910H 24* at A2 and 27 at B3.   The 24 swings just about the same as the 27 (I shortened the shaft of the 24 and changed the grip to Winn Lite Dri Tac oversize) and both are 38" length.  I have the 19* fairway set 41.5"

  3. Hi Lou G,

thanks for your help. Reasoning behind your proposal is to bridge the gap with 2 clubs? Would like to know why to weaken the lofts of these 2 clubs.

    thanks

Another option is 17 and 21 fairways, 24H.   This is the "senior" setup.   One is you'd get more use out of a 17F vs a 15.  Titleist has a selection of setups based on ball speed. http://www.titleist.com/golf-club-fitting/  (look at "Right Clubs for You")

One thing about 910F and 910H is that the standard loft has a .5* open clubface.    You may actually get a LOWER ball flight with the weaker settings because the clubface gets more closed.   I proved this almost 2 years ago when switching from a 10.5* neutral face driver to a 13* draw driver.   Even in a side by side between my 2K7 Burner HT vs three R11 10.5* drivers, I hit the former lower and farther (also because I carry such a lofted driver, I have dropped the 3 wood from my bag - I also have a go to choke shot with my driver on the 200 yard par 3s).   Also, I've hit the 13* driver over 250 yards on a few occasions but generally around 220-240 DEAD STRAIGHT.

Another thing is that it is easier to launch a 4 wood (16.5 or 17) off the deck vs a 15* 3 wood.

The choice of the 19* fairway vs 19* hybrid is more or less personal for me.  I've been having great success with a 19-21* fairway wood since 2006.   The other hand is that I struggle to try to hit a 19-21* hybrid.    Before you succumb to the "hybrid hype" (that they are the greatest thing since sliced bread - true for higher lofted hybrids because I hit a 5H or 6H farther than a 9 wood or 11 wood), try them side by side.   I've found that I can hit a 7 wood just as far as a 17H (they also pretty much have the same lie angle and shaft length).    The reason I fare better with a 26-28 hybrid vs a 9 wood or 11 wood: with the latter, they keep the lie angle the same as the 7 wood but shorten the shaft while the former continues to  increase the lie angle.

The way I ended up arriving at B3 for the 19* and 27* was toying around with the former. My baseline for the effort was that my proven length and lie angle for a 5/7W is 41.5" and 59*, and that for a 5H is 38.5" and 60.5.   So I initially set the three clubs  @ -1/2" length.   I toyed with the 19* and ball flight is a bit of a toss up between B3 and D3 - best results at the park, Sorrento Canyon and Admiral Baker ranges were B3 and Miramar and Riverwalk ranges were D3; tended to pull it at Sorrento and had a hard time hitting at the park with D3.   B3 works good on the golf course for both.  The only thing I may do is practice choke shots with the B3 and D3 settings on the 19* and that may finalize things.

For the 24*, A2 hits it dead straight at the park and I have no problem with choke shots (may have to revisit D3 or even D2 now that I changed the club length).  So the basic deal is my 24, 27 and 34 hybrids all swing the same (38.5" length and ~60.5* lie angle, my ideal hybrid setup).
