Why do shafts on stock irons vary in frequency so much? I had my clubs checked at Nick Faldos ' Marriott Golf Course in Orlando and they varied from 4.2-5.3???-They were Fusions

These numbers look like torque measurements, not frequency.

Stock Fusions? Std. L/L/L? Which shafts are in them? If possible, post your results so we can see them.

    David,
Here is why club repair guys in the field get such different numbers.  To properly freq and compare shafts it must be done the exact same way they do it a the factory.  The biggest issue is frequency analyzing the shaft blank ( without grip and head installed)  Most repairmen in the field are not going to take the time to do that.... David, did they take your clubs apart to freq them? You also must use the same frequency machine, same clamp size and tightness, how far down the shaft is clamped.....I'm sure Cathi or one of the TT people can give you the exact details of how Titleist does it. Otherwise it is the ole" apples vs.
    oranges "comparison.
Again the TT team can tell you the details, but I know for a fact that Titleist like any reputable company checks their shafts BEFORE  they are installed.  A normal shaft change ( stiff to regular) is about 10 CPM.  I think Titelst tolerances are 4 CPM's...
You will also see in the field now True Temper offering  a "Tour issue" product.  My understanding is that these tolerances are less than 2 CPM's.  Additional cost of about $15 per shaft....
Now for the real world --- Does a 1/2 flex (5 CPM's) or less make a significant difference in your ball flight?  That is always the question to ask yourself and one that a good fitter will consider. When you get into all the tiny details of specs of a club you can go to any depth you want. But in the end - Does it have a SIGNIFICANT affect on ball flight? My 25 years of fitting experience has shown me that when players seem to get too concerned with a itty bitty details they seem to forget the most important issue and that is their swing.
Also,REMEMBER this - the head of the golf club affects the ball flight more than the shaft -- lie angle, loft, CG location, design...
A True Temper shaft engineer told me that 12 years ago.
