There are some great forums out there that provide the chance to find clubs at less than retail, but of course, you run the risk of finding a less than ideal fit.  This is the story of me and my 910 hybrids.

I'd always been a reg flex guy, and late fall of 2011, I picked up a 910H 19* and 24*.  A little later, I added a 21*.  In March 2012, I was fitted for a 910D3, which resulted in a stiff flex shaft, and wow, what a great fit the RIP has been for me.  I played through the year with the hybrids, but I haven't been pleased with the ball flight.  I had previously played a 5 and 7 wood, and was accustomed to the high ball flight.  My hope was to achieve similar performance from the 19* and 21*, but both clubs, which have the Kai'li shaft, have a much more penetrating/boring flight that doesn't stop and drop as much as I'd like.

I'm thinking about switching the 19* for a 910F 19*, but I'd like to keep the 21* if I can find a higher flight.  Total distance I see with these clubs as currently configured is what I'm aiming for, I'd just like to get the ball flight up.  My swing is more that of a picker/sweeper than that of a digger, and that may account for some of the lack of height I achieve.

Would the ilima be a better choice?

    George,

The ilima will certainly help launch the ball higher then the Kai'li.  You could also look into the Bassara W, which offers a higher launch then the ilima.  These are lighter and softer tipped, so you may even be able to fit into a stiff flex like in your driver.  Work with a Club Fitter who can find a ball flight in your hybrids and fairway metals that will give you an optimum launch for better green stopping ability.

The 19F and the 21H would be better combination mainly because the fairway hits higher and generally gets 5-10 yards more distance vs the 19H (for some of us).   Personally, I can hit a 7 wood just as far as a 17 hybrid and much better.

Have you ever thought about changing the 19 and 21H for a 21 fairway?  The fairway should get the same distance as the 19H.   I've been a 7 wood fan since 2006 and my winning combination has been a 20-21* fairway wood and 25-27* hybrid.

I don't carry a 3 wood since I have a 13* draw driver (I hit it just as far and lower than a 10.5* neutral driver) - works for me.   I carried a 975F 16.5 fairway for 3 years (along with a 20.5).     Also found little difference between an 18* fairway and 21* fairway.     I have an ability to crush a 7 wood and have hit my old TM Burner 225 yards.

I have a 910F 19* (set at D3) and I love it to death.  It actually hits farther than my TM Superfast 5-18 did and with a more moderate trajectory.   Because the shaft is shortened to 41" I can swing away with it.  I also have a 910H 21* available (but still am learning to use it; it does have a pretty high ball flight) but have been faring better with a stinger shot on the fairway wood.   I have a 910H 27* that I can crush and drop it the same distance just about every time.

    Lou,

My 2008-2011 bag had TM r7 steel 3, 5 & 7 woods, and I've considered going with the 910F 19* & 21*.  But I like the 910H 21*; I hit it the correct yardage for the two longer (190 uphill & 205 downhill) par 3's at my home course.  I just wish I flew it a little higher.

I'm not so caught up in trying to hit the ball farther.  My 910F 15* is good to about 235, the 910H 19* 215ish and the 21* up to 200, but more reasonably 195.  My next club is my AP2 5 iron at 175.  I just want to give myself the best chance for consistency that will HOLD greens from 210 yards.

Do you think a 910F 15* set to 16.5* would be as effective as a 910F 17*?  I ask because I've even considered dumping the 910F 15*, 910H 19* & 21* and going with a 910F 17* & 21*, and putting my 910H 24* back in the bag.  This could quite honestly give me the best yardage coverage.  But if a 910F 15 lofted out would be the same, well that would save me some $$, which is always good.

    Thanks,

    George

Since you already have a 15 F and a 21 H, try dialing them to 16.5 and 20.25 and then see where the 24 H fits between the 5I and 21H.  You can also play with the 19 at 19.75 and 20.5 and see if you like that better than the 21 H.  Trading both the 21 and 19 H or the 19 H and the 15 F for either a 19 or 17 F will take as much time again to work on distances.

I'd try to dance with the one I brung.  Life was soooo much simpler when there was no adjustment. I'm not as long as you and have 27/24H and 21/17F.  My 17F is not what I like, but it works at 17.75 and choked down to the lenght of the 19. Better than having to buying the 19.

    910F 17 and 21 with a 910H 24 would be a good combo.     I played a 975F 16.5 and 20.5 along with a 26H for almost 3 years.  I've been a lover of 7 woods since 2006.  Also had a 980F 15* and persimmon 21 and 28.5 fairways in 2010.

The 910F 17 would be more effective because you would have a range of adjustment between 16.25 and 18.5 with a wider range of ball flights.    What you can do is try out the 910F 15* and see if it gives you the ball flight you need; you have to remember that when you increase loft you also close the clubface (for instance, A2 is standard loft with .5 open clubface, D3 is +.75 loft with .5 closed clubface and A3 is +1.5 loft with +1.5 closed clubface).

As for a 19F and 21F or 19 and 21H, 2* spacing is almost nil for yardage difference (they overlap a lot of times).   I've even found that with a TM Burner 5-18 vs a 7-21 that there was 5 yards difference.  Even between a 24 and 27H I had less than 5 yards difference (then again, I can crush a 27H).

    I have a 15 yard diff between the 910F 19 and 910H 21 and also 15 between the 910H 21 and 27.

Have you tried adding loft to the 910H?

If you are RH, maybe try D4 or A4 Surefit settings.

Money for buying new clubs is often a problem for someone not on tour, so if you don't want to but a new club, I think the shaft is your best bet.  The shaft can achieve lower ball flight and since it is more like an iron, it will get more spin for drop and stop control.  Go to a local pro shop and look at some of the shafts they have for higher loft, it will be much cheaper than a whole new hybrid.  Also go to websites like aldila or fujikura or miyazaki which is one of my favorites for lighter shafts that could help a lot.  You can have a titleist sure fit tip put on any shaft you may find that you like.

    Hope this helps
