Hi, this is Bin, I am 30 years old. I just started to play golf  a month ago. I would like to buy Titleist 910 D2 as my driver. I have a question about the loft and shaft.

If I choose 10.5 loft, which shaft is good for beginner (such as Titleist ilima 61 R flex or Titleist Kai' li 65 R flex )?

What if i choose 12 loft, what do you think the shaft fit to this head ( such as Titeist Bassara W 50)?

Thanks a lot, looking forward your reply.

    Bin,

You want to keep in mind what your current launch and spin characteristics are.  For example, if you hit the ball high and spin it a lot (ball balloons after contact), then you may want to look at less loft in a driver and a lower spinning shaft.  Know that the Bassara W shaft is our highest launching/spinning shaft.  It is also a softer feeling shaft, which can help players that don't have high club head speed and need a little help getting the ball in the air.  The Kai'li is more of a mid launching/spinning shaft, and will play slightly firmer to flex then the ilima and Bassara.  The ilima will launch it lower then the Bassara, but is still a high launching shaft.

The best thing I can recommend is that you visit a Titleist Club Fitter.  Since I am unable to see your ball flight, any recommendation of what will work best for you would be a shot in the dark.  The Club Fitter will be able to analyze you ball flight and get you the best combination that will get the best ball flight, resulting in more distance.  If you need any help finding a Club Fitter, please click on the link below or contact Team Titleist at 1-888-TITLEIST.

Since a new driver is north of $400, a good fitter may also recommend not buying a driver at this time as well.  A couple of major swing changes may change your contact with ball, both on speed and launch angle.  A club head speed of 81 or 92 mph could make the difference between a 12 or a 10.5 degree loft and a senior to stiff flex.  Depends on how well you swing today.  Not only does a good fitter fit the club to you, but will take time for any obvious corrections in your swing.

A sporting goods store may be inclined to sell you what works today and in 90 days, you might be that much better.

You are right, thank you Don.

I would prefer the used driver which can help me save some dollors for the range.

    Thanks a lot!

IF YOU ARE JUST STARTING I WOULD SUGGEST THE 12 WITH THE 50 BASSARA SHAFT IF YOU HAVE A SLOW SMOOTH SWING. IF YOU ARE BEING AGGRESIVE WITH YOUR SWING THEN GO WITH THE 10.5 WITH ILLIMA R. THE HEAVIER AND STIFFER YOU GO WITH SHAFTS THE HARDER IT IS TO CONTROL AND GET A NICE FLEX WITH YOUR SWING

Thank you Larry. I prefer loft at 10.5. Because this loft can be also adjusted to 12. I would get illima 61 for the shaft.

One more thing, do you have any other recommendation for beginner driver, what about png G20?

    Many thanks!
