Too much backspin with 913 D2

  1. Since Fall of last year I have used AP2 irons, a Scotty Cameron putter and a 913 d2 driver.  I noticed that I get a reasonable carry with the driver (235 to 245), but not much roll, so I went to CoolClubs and had them look at it using Trackman.  The backspin on individual drives ranged from 4300 to 5500.  The launch angle is 13 degrees.  The driver shaft is a Diamante 72.  I love the look, feel and sound of the driver, but I need some roll.  The CoolClubs people have tried to sell me a TM (spin 2500 during the test with an Acura 55 shaft) , but I am not consistent with it and hate the sound.  What can I do with my beloved 913 to lower the backspin? Should I adjust the 9.5 to 8.5?  Would a different shaft solve the problem?

Spin rate is more than just shaft selection.

What is your standard ball flight? right to left, left to right, high, low? does it seam to climb then peak and fall to the ground (balloning)

If your right handed the D2 is right to left bias...  more info please...

  3. I am right-handed.  Standard ball flight is high and right to left ( draw but not a hook).  I do do not wear my glasses when I play and do not see the ball very well as it gets over 200 yds, but I would say that it seems to balloon somewhat.

Have you been to a Titleist club fitter to try different shafts? If you have an in to out swing and  you are hitting up rather then hitting down on the ball I would recommend a  lower tragectory shaft. For instance I generally hit the ball higher than I prefer. I went to a RIP Phenom with a 8.5 D3, I will probably change over to a 7.5 in the future.  What setting do you have your D2 at? Remember TM is never the answer... Lol

I would definitely try some different shafts. It can make a big difference in ball flight and get those numbers to sub 3000. Knowing some people in retail TM gives bonuses for selling their clubs so I'm always skeptical when someone is pushing you to buy one.

    Charles,

I switched from a 9.5 910 D3 set at D1 with an ilima 61 r to a 8.5 913D3 set at A1 with a Bassara 50 r and lowered my launch angle to 13.5 with a spin rate under 3000. I tend to hit the ball high with a slight fade to straight. My club speed is in the mid 90's.I was able to increase my carry to 230 with 15 roll according to the launch monitor. I was fitted by a Titleist rep at a local demoday.Go  to the titleist page for demodays near you it's worth it.

Excellent infomation as I am likely near where you were.  I have arranged to do a fitting sometime in the next few weeks with a Titlest rep and will post the results afterward.
