I've been through several fittings, but I've always had some issues with getting a true feel for the clubs because of the fitting club's grip size. I'm 6'5", and my hands are pretty big. As a result, a standard grip is small for me. Usually, I have 3-4 wraps or even a midsize grip.
An example is my fitting for a 909D3 last year. During the fitting is was difficult to get a consistent shot - some hooked, some sliced. Even after purchasing the club, I still think the grip was too small (2-3 extra wraps), resulting in me holding on so tight that I had an inconsistent release. The result was often a HUGE slice or a duck hook -- something I never do with any other club. I had a midsize grip put on, and now I'm much more consistent with the driver.
I have a fitting next week for a 910Fd. Is there anything I can do to increase my odds of a proper fit?
I have tried out many sample grips, but my problem is that nothing really seems to be standard. I actually have another post about my experiences trying to get a grip that fits (get more wraps, but comes back smaller, etc.)
I will be at a Titleist Advanced fitter that I have been at before. Unfortunately, the grips are so much smaller than my normal ones that it's hard to string 3-4 good shots in a row.
I wonder if a few wraps of tennis grip tape would work? That would temporarily build up the grip, but I'm afraid it might leave a residue.
