Can they be made with D2 or D1 in swing weight??
Would it be better to take the DG S LX100 shaft??
I am hitting the ball pretty high and spinning

Re: AP2 overlength!??

[quote user="Michael M"]

An interesting discussion here!. My AP2's are fitted with True Temper S300 shafts that are one and one-half inches over-length with lie of 3-degrees up. Original grips were the standard Tour Velvet.. Titleist did an excellent job of getting these in at D3 swing weight through the set. Did I get lucky or are there some extra tricks that Titleist can use to maintain the lower swing weights?. My old clubs, with identical shaft length and similar lie tipped the balance at a hefty E2!

I have a couple Louisville persimmons that came in at D8 with a Winn Excel RF grip (they were steel shafted and I lengthened them). Golf Pride Tour Wrap Midsize brought the swingweights down to D4.

Butt weighting also reduces swingweight.

Re: AP2 overlength!??

An interesting discussion here!. My AP2's are fitted with True Temper S300 shafts that are one and one-half inches over-length with lie of 3-degrees up. Original grips were the standard Tour Velvet.. Titleist did an excellent job of getting these in at D3 swing weight through the set. Did I get lucky or are there some extra tricks that Titleist can use to maintain the lower swing weights?. My old clubs, with identical shaft length and similar lie tipped the balance at a hefty E2!

A bone stock AP2 is D2 with the standard rubber grip. It would come out to D6 with a midsize or D5 with a jumbo grip (assuming weight of a midsize grip is 67g and a jumbo is 72) with +1"

Fitters please comment about this: Would it make sense to use +1/2" and bend them an additional 1/2 degree upright? (the tradeoff being swingweight is more tolerable but possibly higher ball flight due to a more vertical swing). I currently use AP1s at standard lie and length (I have a little bit more horizontal of a golf swing with the irons these days and I stand somewhat erect with some knee flex). My previous iron sets were 1/2" shorter and 1/2* more upright vs my AP1s and I had a bit of a high ball flight mainly because of the more vertical swing (I gain one club with the AP1s vs the Eye 2s and 1/2 club vs my DIY and DCI 981); keep in mind that the Eye 2 loft is one club different vs AP1 (i.e., the Eye 2 9 iron and AP1 PW have same loft) and the other irons have the same loft as AP2s.

Re: AP2 overlength!??

Morten,

We do have lighter heads we can use, but that is only getting you a +/- 1 swing weight point. Figure you add 6 swing weight points with the +1" and you will only get 2 of those points back by using the DG SL shafts.

I thought Titleist could use some lighter heads to keep the swing weight down and make them D2 or maybe D3??

I have a friend that has the AP2 712 with Project X 6,5 + 1 inch and midsize Tour Velvet grips with a D2 swing weight. Maybe that is not true and he has heard wrong?

We will not be able to swing weight those clubs with DG X100 at +1" to D1-D2. If you were to use the DG SL X100 shafts at that length, then we could probably come close to D5. The DG SL shaft isn't a bad idea at that length, since it still promotes a lower all flight.
