I had been "fit" a couple of times, once in a golf store with a lie board and launch monitor, and once at a club builders facility with a more advaced launch monitor. Both times were inside and very few shaft options were tried.

I was recently fit at Manchester Ln. outside with a trackman and endless shaft options with a great fitter. I went in with a budget, but like you, I am a little older and finally have some money to spend. I ended up going a bit over budget, but for the first time, I truly have a set of clubs designed just for me. I hit several combinations of heads and shafts and actually saw the results with my own eyes at the range and on with the trackman data. No guessing.

My fittings were $150. each. I got fit for driver/ woods and hybrids/ irons for $300. none of that cost went toward the clubs I bought. It's not the only way to do it, nor the cheapest, but I am feeling pretty good about it. Ultimately the decision is yours, but this has been my experience. Good Luck!

I'm 56 and I've never had the budget to be fitted or in the case of my irons, the money to get new sticks. Finally, I able to do it and I want to get a Titleist fitting because I love my wedges and 3 wood. What's the difference between getting fitting from the cart in a Goldsmith for example and getting fitting at a course (The Bridges in San Ramon) what's the difference in cost, for the fitting and the actual clubs? I want to do this right, but I don't want to go through with this and then have to go over my budget.

Lots of the regional fitters use launch monitors and Pro V1 golf balls in their fitting as well. Outdoors off of real grass.... with a good instructor is the BEST way to go.

I am not sure what part of the country you're in, but if Sea Island is near you I would definitely recommend it. I was fit for my Ap2 712's and vokey's there in November. It was a great experience. I suggest going to Craig Allan if you happen to be in the area.

We have many good Advanced Fitters and you will be well fit at both places. The regional fitting center has a larger matrix of fitting shafts, use a Trackman launch monitor and ProV1's or ProV1x balls.
