Steve, thanks for your post. I realize the effect of the lie angle is minimal the outcome of the shot with driver, but modern drivers are just uncomfortable for me to sole. Rather than my hands staying low through the shot, the upright drivers force them upward.

That lie angle will probably be very difficult to find. Here's some info for you. The less loft you have in a club the less important lie angle is... test results from 10 years ago with Titleist told us this. With a 10* lofted club and an incorrect lie of 2* on a 250 yard shot the ball was 10 feet off line.
I would make sure you are playing with the correct length of shaft. Most standard length drivers today are over 45" long. A longer shaft will make the club play effectively more upright. The same thing certainly would apply to your fairway metals as well.

Agree with Steve Ball, the longer the shaft, the more upright the lie angle! For every 1/2" increase or decrease in shaft length, lie angle changes 1 degree. "Older" or more traditional drivers and fairways had flatter lie angles, but in those days, shaft lengths were 43 for driver, and 42 for 3 wood. Hope this helps.

No equipment companies seem to offer flat enough drivers for me. I play my irons 5 flat, and it doesn't make any sense for me to play my driver at 58 or 59 degrees.

The lie angle cannot be made more than .75 flat on a metalwood. 57.75" is the maximum flat on the driver and on the fairways, it will range from 55.75 to 57.25° as the flattest lie angle.

lol, he means the angle of the shaft to the head. He feels that his driver is too upright.

Dainiel, Jacob is asking about the LIE angle, not the LOFT as I think you are referring to. To be clear let us first define the two terms: LIE is the angle formed between the shaft of the club and the ground at address and LOFT is the angle of the club face reletive to a vertical plane also at address.

The current driver series, 913D2/D3 have a standard LIE angle of 58.5°. This may be adjusted as much as -0.75° to +1.5°.

The 913D2 is available in LOFT angles of 7.5°,8.5°,9.5°,10.5° and 12° and may be adjusted by as much as -0.75° to +1.5°.

The 913D3 is availaable in LOFT angles of 7.5°,8.5°,9.5° and 10.5° and may be adjusted by as much as -0.75° to +1.5°.

To answer Jacob's orgininal question, no you can't get the LIE adjusted by 5°. Unless you are very short that really seems excessive to me. I suggest that you consult a fitter for your specific needs.

No, I mean lie angles. Every major manufacturer's driver sits way too upright for me.
