  1. Recently went to Golfsmith for driver fitting and all the fitter wanted to do was turn wrench on TM R1.

Couple of days later went and got on launch monitors by myself and really liked looks and sound of 913 D2.  99- 100 mph swing speed with 9.5 degree Phenom stock shaft.  Ball speed of about 145mph and launch of 12.8 degrees.  Back spin was too high at 3000 rpm's set on A! setting.  Any suggestions please?  Should I go to 8.5 degree head to reduce spin numbers or try a different shaft?  At 57 years old I'm too old to change my swing much.

    Thanks

Hard to imagine, but rumors persist that some large retailers get some additional discounts/bonuses for selling some products.  Not saying that your box does...maybe the guy is a TM guy at heart.   I love my AFC because we try both TM and Titleist with equal promotion.  So far, I've bought Titleist because it worked better.

Hitting into the booth at a box store can be dangerous to your (financial) health.  The equipment is well-used (abused...) and is not necessarily accurate.  I know my local GG is just whacko about ball spin, but the distances are close.  I'd trust a fitter on an outdoor monitor before shelling out $400 for a driver based on bad data.

The lower loft may reduce spin, but you also may be able to find a shaft to lower spin, too.  If you can tell us what town you are in, we can give you a list of recommended fitters in your area or ir you prefer, you can give us a call at 1-888-TITLEIST.
