I am going on 66 years of age and currently have a handicap of 2.8.  My swing speed with a 6 iron is in the range of 75-80 mph average. The fastest I could get to right now is around 85 as I recently had back surgery and my doctor recommended that I switch from steel shafts to graphite in my irons.  However when I look at the custom booklet there is a limited number of graphite shafts available.and most of them have a highball flight which I do not want.  I am looking for a low launch, and low to mid ball flight because, most of the time. it is quite windy where I live.  I am currently playing a set of 712 irons with the Project X PXi shafts -5.5.

I am looking at purchasing a set of Titleist 714 AP2s and am considering placing the AeroTech Steel Fiber 95i shaft in them.  However a fitter recommeded that I look at the Aldila Tour 95 shaft.  But I do not see this as a option in the custom brochure.  Is it something that  is available or soon will be?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks

Hi Jon,  The Aildila shaft is not available and right now is not on the radar to be added.

In heavyweight graphite, we will have the Kurokage 85 as well as the Recoil 95,110,  Prototype 95 and the Aerotech i95 and i110.

    Cathi,

I am also interested in a set of AP2s with graphite shafts.  Can you predict the swing weight for a clubs assembled with a shaft +.25" over standard length?

Hi James,  Yes, we can do that for you.....just let me know what shaft, and grip and grip size.  For anyone that is swingweight sensitive, we recommend putting a specific swingweight on your order when placing it.

Thanks.  Appreciate the information.  Will consider those options.  Any price information on the Recoil 95?  I see it is an exotic special order shaft from your custom fitting brochure, or would I need to talk to my Titleist sales person?

We carry the Aerotech i95 stiff flex in house so the build time would be less than ordering the Recoil 95, which we have to order from UST.  The pricing for both of those is about the same.  If you are looking at the Recoil Prototype, that is quite a bit more.  Please contact your local shop for actual pricing as we don't have an MSRP for upcharge shafts.

Is it true that the graphite shafts in irons tend to play more stiff than steel shafts? So a Stiff in the graphite shaft would feel closer to an X shaft in steel?

    Cathi,
I am interested in a set of AP2 irons with the Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Regular stiffness shaft, VDR Black grip with two wraps of tape, shaft length +.25, lie 1 degree flat.  I would like a set with a swing weight of D2 or D3.  If this cannot be built with the Steelfiber graphite shaft, is it possible with the UST Mamiya Recoil Prototype 95 shaft?
    Please advise.

We can get to a maximum swingweight of D2 with those shafts, that grip at 1/4" long.  The Recoils with those specs will build as heavy as D3.  Please make sure your pro shop specifies swingweight on the order.
