  1. I am going to order a set of AP2 714 with aerotech steelfiber i95 in stiff flex. I was told the steelfiber shafts play above stiff. I'm playing with project x 5.5 now and have been for years. My handicap is a 1.8 and my swing speed with my driver is 103- 105. My question to you is Should I keep them the way they come or should I soft step them. Thanks,

    Hi Bubba,

    Thanks for the post.

First off, I like the username!

Second, R, S, and X are arbitrary letters that shaft manufacturers assign to their products in order to classify them. One companies "S" may be another companies "X". It is important to look at factors such as weight, kick point and torque. The i95's you mentioned are 20 grams lighter with a softer torque compared to the PX 5.5. Many fitters would consider the PX to play stiffer.

I would not suggest simply ordering the i95 soft stepped based off the information you provided. I would strongly suggest seeing a local fitter and comparing the two shafts.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

  3. I see a lot of the pros are hitting the i95 in stiff flex, so does at mean the shaft plays above stiff? Thanks, Bubba

    Hi Bubba,

Not necessarily. The PGA Tour players who play the i95 S play it because it helps improve their iron game. It does not mean it is "above stiff" just because they play it.

    Hope this helps.

    Bubba

  5. How would you compare the i95s to px 5.5 in the play of stiffness and the ball fight? Thanks,Bubba

Hi, here's a chart that might help you

The i95's are not in the chart but the i110's and PX 5.5's are

I played the PX 5.5 for a very long time and it plays a bit stiffer than what the frequency says. Ball flight was not high and very low spin. After that went to the KBS and after I did a fitting session at Titleist which got me into the NS Pro 105T in R flex my game has improved very much
