AP3 vs AP2

Grant V

Wednesday I got fit for Titleist AP3’s. I don’t know if it had anything to do with it but I hand’t played in a couple of months so it was a bit ugly. Right now I play AP2’s and I love them. When I tried out both clubs they both felt great but the AP2 went a little higher than the AP3. I don’t want to buy AP3’s just because I had a bad day, and I know it is all based on personal preference, but any ideas?

Since you seem to have had a questionable fitting session due to an extended off time, I would suggest making an effort to spend some time on the range, then go for another fitting session. Like you, I would want to be certain I was fit to a set of clubs when my swing was in good shape.

I did two separate fittings a few weeks apart to help me lock in to my choice. I was torn between AP1 and T-MB. Test as much as you need to make sure you get it right.

I would say if you play AP2's now and love them. Stick with AP2's. You already have the confidence in them, why mess with success. For me I was playing AP1's so when I got fitted this fall. It showed I hit the AP3's decent. I said what the heck and went for it and ordered AP'3. This was a step up for me club wise (11.5 hncp). Figure next spring will crack single digits.. Enjoy you are right by the AP2's...

Talk to your fitter to do a re-do after getting more practice. The AP3s do offer more forgiveness, if you don't regularly play at least weekly or more.

If you are happy with the way the AP2's you are playing why switch? Unless your looking for more forgiveness, stick with the AP2's. They wont let you down on performance. I find I hit the AP3's better but that's because they fit my game better.

I would recommend a second fitting for a full iron set, you could have a combo set AP3/AP2 built. Starting the AP3 where you begin to struggle hitting solid shots. I have been thinking about this option???
