    Not to disregard the Crown Plaza, Memorial, or St. Jude, but I would like to get rambling on the US Open.  It’s always a favorite major and always highly anticipated.  Watching some highlights on GC of past US Opens makes me really excited to watch the best players in the world struggle to break par.  It makes me feel a little better about my game (I know, I know it’s not even close to the same conditions.  Let me dream).  Watching the 2002 US Open highlights with Sergio in Titleist gear really brought me back.  He was so much cooler back then.  Anyway let’s get this discussion started.

    Who’s your pick for the winner?

     I know Duffner has a hot hand, and I would love to see him win a major, but I’ve got a feeling Nick Watney will come out on top.

    What’s your favorite previous US Open?

    I have to go with Bethpage.  It’s so cool to see the pros play a truly public course

    Have any of you ever been fortunate enough to play Olympic Club? 

    That course looks amazing.  Robert Trent Jones Sr is one of my favorite architects and I love that he has a hand in this tournament.

    I’m excited to hear your thoughts and even more excited to watch the drama unfold.

    I've got a little US Open fever right now, too!

    There's something strange about watching the best players in the world struggle - it almost feels like they know how I feel every time I tee it up and my track (from the forward tees) is about 1,800 yards shorter!!  But there were some great shots to be had yesterday, too.

    Your Watney prediction may come to pass if he can build on that amazing double eagle...talk about a game changer!

    I'm feeling Dufner a little this week and put him on my fantasy golf squads.  My heart of course is with Steve Stricker (as it is in EVERY Major), but his opening 76 is going to force him to work really hard to elbow up the leader board.  I still have hope!

    That reminds me, I need to get some streaming coverage going!

    I think my fave US Open was 2008.   I live near Torrey Pines.

    It is a personal record in watching golf on TV - 13 hours over that weekend (2nd record is when Phil won the Masters in 2010 - 6 hours watching).

    I wanted Rocco to beat TW that year.   I got to go to some of the practice rounds.

    I can't believe that a 14 year old is plying in the U.S Open!!!!!!!!!!!

    No kidding!  He ended up shooting the same score as the World Number 1

    Beau was fun to watch and mostly cuz he was so young!  Can't believe how composed he was playing a tough course.  Nerves of steel!

    Enjoyed watching this Open at Olympic very much.  Does anyone else thing that the pros should play courses this tough on a regular basis?  It is encouraging to watch them struggle like we all do almost every time we tee it up - and very nice to see them should "human" scores, i.e. around par, a few over or a few under, like some of us are able to do.  It's really no fun seeing winning scores of double digits under par.

    When Luke Donald posted a 79 in the 1st or 2nd round, my wife said, "hey that's what you just shot" - felt good, even though I know that Luke's 79 was miles more difficult than mine!

    Lol Jason, my Fiance said the same thing.  That's what makes the US Open so special.  Gotta love that+1 won it.- The USGA out did itself this year.

    I agree man - the USGA struck a perfect balance between the course being very difficult but fair - must be tough to accomplish that delicate balance, so kudos to them.

     . . . and now back to the birdie-fest, aka the PGA Tour.  No complaints though, I had two myself last weekend.

    we're all so lucky to play this amazingly gratifying game!

    The 2000 and 2010 US Opens at Pebble Beach which I attended

    Have any of you ever been fortunate enough to play Olympic Club? 

    No, but I was a Marshall at the 1998 Open and at the two Tour Championships that were played there in the 1990's.  

    I took the son in-law to this year's tournament on Moving day Saturday. Followed Ricky Flowler for 5 holes, then Padraig for a few, then Tiger for 2 and then Ian Poulter for the back 9. Also hung out at the 14th green and got a thrill when Kevin Na threw me his golf ball because he saw me clapping when he was able to save par. A great day!
